Hi everyone, new here. I have been cleaning up a Chinese 125cc Thumpstar that I had bought used a few years back for my son. Since we have had it we have only used the kick starter to start her as we didn't have a battery to fit and it started fairly easily kicking. However as it has an electric boot I thought I might as well see if it works. After hooking up a suitable battery I pushed the button but nothing. I installed a new starter coil with no luck. After doing some continuity checks on all related wires I can't find any breaks. There is no power at the plug to the starter coil, though by putting power directly to the starter motor from the battery it turns the motor over. In troubleshooting I noticed that it has a safety switch that needs the front brake lever pulled to allow starting (though this still didn't allow it to start at the button), I don't remember this from kicking, and at the moment it doesn't have a tank etc to check. Could it be possible that there is a separate starting circuit for the electric start opposed to the kick, and something is a miss in the CDI? On another point, there is a group of 5 wires coming out of the engine with a plug the same as the one that plugs into the CDI and pins in the same configuration but thinner gauge but it isn't plugged anywhere, Anyone know what this is for? Is it for an optional light circuit? It is curious that it is the same plug and pin config as the one that plugs into CDI.
Thanks in Advance
