i was jus wonderin whats the difference betwen 2 stroke and 4 stroke except for the premix of the 2 stroke fuel can you guys please answer my question

thanks

4 strokes fire every second revolution
2 Strokes fire every revolution

4 strokes engines are heavier
2 strokes engines are lighter

4 strokes have more moving parts
2 strokes have less moving parts

4 strokes have a dedicated lubrication system
2 strokes mix fuel with oil

4 strokes burn only fuel
2 strokes burn fuel and oil

4 strokes have a long engine life
2 strokes have a not very long engine life

4 strokes rev high
2 Strokes rev higher and faster

4 strokes have a wide power band
2 strokes have a narrow power band at the top of the rev range

New 4 strokes are light and fast almost as fast as the 2 stroke.
2 strokes will be discontinued unfortunatley due to the emmissions. :(

If you want a bike that will last buy a 4 stroke.

If you want a bike that is fast and light buy a 2 stroke but be perpared to replace engine parts.

thanks for the tips and that realy sucks their going to stop usin two strokes to me i think their really good

definatly they are but eventually with the advancments that have been made mechanically and technically there will be a 2 stroke with better performance than your current 2 stroke, its bound to happen, only question is when this is going to come into main stream, your guess is as good as mine.

Cheers, Tony.

P.S: nice post dabomb, clean and simple, i like it :D

Not the chinese **** 4 strokes, but the propper Yz cr ect 250s they need to be re-built more than a 2-stroke and cost more for the rebuild. Personal preferance weather you like BAND and the zing or barp

Wrong when you are talking about the new 4 strokes, if your gonna buy a jap 4 stroke only get one of the low tuned ones like TTR or XR, and if you want a MX bike definately go 2 stroke, they will outlast a mx 4 stroke and cost a fraction over the long run.

the new hi performance 4 strokes require more maintenance than 2 strokes and they are alot more expensive to work on and if u dont race full time 2 strokes last for ages and changing a piston and/or ring is cheap and easy anyway. u can demolish a piston and fix ur motor for well under a grand on a 2 banger (including a re-sleeve), on a 4 stroke u could be up for 3 or 4 grand depending on the motor

as far as im concerned 2 strokes r the **** man it`s just the pollution laws that are killing them. a pitty with a water cooled 125 2 stroke motor would be a monster, surprised no one has tried that yet

20 years, **** bout time u move on! get a pitty :)
I wonder if I could get my cr500 motor in a pitty,
I read that 2 stroke marine engines that are direct oil injection have reduced the emissions to almost the same level as 4 strokes.

Yup, correcto, the modern day 2 stroke (depending on manufacturer of course) is supprisingly as clean as the 4 stroke. But the technology is mainly being used in Marine and Horticultural usage.

Yeh my Optimax 75hp outboard is as quiet as a 4 stroke, has the poke of a 2 stroke and is as clean if not cleaner than some 4 strokes.

go for gold 2 stroke

2 Strokes fire every revolution

2 strokes engines are lighter

2 strokes have less moving parts

2 strokes mix fuel with oil

2 strokes burn fuel and oil

2 Strokes rev higher and faster

In my opinion, 2 strokes are the way to go. Look at the up sides!! besides the are hell funner to ride they go hard and if you treat them right they could be your best friend :)

4 strokes win all the national MX races ....... where you can have fun playing "spot the two stroke" ..........
