Hey fellas,
I have a couple of quick questions to ask.
Firstly i have noticed a build of of carbon (black crap) on my spark plug. I think this means my engine is running to rich. where do i adjust the fuel ratio on my carb? (25mm mikuni on atomik avenger)
Seacond question. How do i remove my electric start electrics??? I want to get rid off all the excess wires and the battery especially! i have hear that removing the elec start also adds more power to the engine..is this true???

cheers guys, Michael :)

mmmmok chhers, so do i screw that in or out? and how do i know when its right???

isnt it better when its abit richer then lean?? thats wat moto shop said:)[/QUO
Yeah but i reckon it would be better still if it was PERFECT!!! and ill get some piccys of the spark plug tomorrow. it just looks burnt at the end and i need to get in there with a metal brush or a cloth and wipe all the crap off..but most of it stays on!

Just rip out the electrics you dont want. Get a peice of allimunum say about 5mm thick and fabricate a cover for where the starter was (Plenty of work with a hacksaw, file and drill) and then bolt it in place of the starter.

You just have to adjust it, ride it, adjust it, ride it until it looks just right, should be a light brown colour, also clean it before you adjust the mixture.

I don't see how taking out the electric start could give it more power..

Hmm im not too good at bodging stuff i may aswell leave the starter on (pretty sure its that crome cylinder under the engine..am i right..dont laugh if im not lol!) can i just take the wires leading into it out...also how do i know which wires to pull out, i dont want to pull the wrong wires out and be left with a dead bike lol!

and about the spark plug/ rich mixture, how long does it take for the crap to build up on the plug..are we talking a couple of seaconds of idleing or should i just ride up and down my drive way a cpouple of times???

cheers guys!

I dont have eletric start so I dont know exactly which wires to remove but if i was going to remove it I would start with the obvious wires that lead to the starter motor and ignition swich. If you are not confident just unclip one wire at a time and then start with the kicker if it starts, runs and stops with the kill swich remove the next wire and so on. If you remove the starter motor making a cover plate is easy, just copy the shape where it bolts to the engine and hey presto one cover plate ready to go.

ok ill give it a crack, so is the crome cylinder under the engine near the back the starter motor?

anybody...??? sorry to be pushy but im about to go to me dads which is where my bike is and my computer over there is crap!

hey fellas,
got all the electric start wires out and the battery...yay...its so much tidier now and lighter lol :)
ive left the starter motor on because i cant be bothered making a cover for it..its not in the way of anything so i dont mind it being there.
Now about the spark plug, i checked my carbi and theres no screw at the bottom...just a phillips head screw going into the side that opens the over flow line...
not sure wht to do about it, ill put some pics up tonight of the carbi and the spark plug.

The screw is on the bottom at the front (is very hard to see) right above the cooling fins. I am glad you had some sucess with your battery, etc. when you sort your tuning you can get on to that cover (you will be good a bodging things by then)

haha cheers mate. ill have another look at the carbi and suss it out, another good thing about getting rid of the elec start is now i can just wack a oil cooler in the place of the battery! and maybe one day i will get to covering that starter motor lol!

Don't get to keen on adjusting the carb.
Jets don't change, if the mix was OK previously it could be a blocked air filter. Clean the filter, start the bike, warm it up then put in a new plug. Run it at full throttle and check the plug.

yeah i got a new filter at the same time i got my new plug and it still went black..so theres no blockage in the filter.
