hey guys

i just got an atomik prox 250 4 stroke

got it for a carton of beer so im fair happy =)

hasnt been started for close to a year

so i did a full oil change

got it started the other day and seemed to run fine. but coz the kick start was old and rusty it snapped

today i borrowed a kickstart from thump140 and i got it started today but seems to be missing a bit and "spitting" i also put a new spark plug in the gap looks pretty close to the old one..

anyone know why its doing this and also anyone know why the exhaust seems to heat up real fast and glow red after only being started for a few minutes (only glows red close to engine inlet)

cheers

sneezy

5 stroke???

the spitting could be cause by the carbi???

yeha i changed it to 4 stroke was a spelling error

we cleaned the carby out and it seems fine

my guess is it could be the spark plug coz it didnt do it before i put a new one in but not 100% sure

at a guess, i would say valve clearances, and possibly running a bit lean if it's popping and backfiring.. if you want, bring it round sometime, we'll have a look at it and see if we can get the valve clearances set properly.
or if your stuck for time and trailer, follow this link, it will show you step by step how to check and adjust the valve clearances on the chinese upright engines. (that's what you have. :))

i was just pulling your leg ;)

try starting it up and if its still spitting fuel might not be getting to the spark plug but i don't see a reason for that?? might've just been the spark plug.

oh awsome will have a sus might bring it over and get ya to have a sus for me one day when ya free will birng ya some booze for ya efforts lol

all good mate, the workshop is here for a reason. :D it totally justifies buying this house. ha ha it may be worth checking the heat range of your spark plug though... too hot a plug, and it may cause issues short term, and kill your motor long term... or both rather rapidly...

ok, that heat range should be alright... yeah might just need a bit of a tune, and the valve clearances looked at after it's "absence"..

yeha i hope its gonna run ok =(

lol let me know when ya free and will bring it over for a sus mate, i need expert advice on these tings lol

will go through the work schedule, and see what i've got on for the rest of the week. might have a quiet night in a day or two.

i got one other quick question.. how do u know if the magneto dies on ya bike?

you wont have any spark, and it wont charge the battery.
if you are still getting spark, magneto still ok

i think sheepy did a review on the x-moto xb35, next model on from yours in the minibike review section, but i'm not sure how much technical detail he went into..
You'll be right mate, the more you play with them, the more you learn. :)

oh and it misses/backfires when on load.... thump140 is helping me out on thurs thank god lol but yeah missing on load is damn annoying and cant seem to find out why..

oh and there is no air filter on it at the moment either =)
