ohkay, so these are my thought as i think i have broken my kick start mechanism! although it still kicks, and when running there is a loud chattering noise and it feels as if there is a missing tooth in certain positions of the leaver.

ive kicked it at top dead centre for 2 months and now am having this issue, the kick start mech did lock up before the issue occurred so i would assume its my fault.

basically from those who have done there kick start in before what was common? did you have to split the motor, replace the case/gear?

ill have to pull it apart myself too see what exactly is going on anyone experimented with the 138cc kick start? (non start in anygear engine)

i was told TDC, and getting 20deg past TDC isnt easy, especially when the motor has compression

and thanks for answering my question "what does it take to replace the kick start mech"

your a lost case

why post in the thread to point out the obvious? i already ruled out that it was my fault

and as i said, its not easy to get a engine with full compression past TDC unassisted

Id have to agree with that mine was tight as when i got it thats how i broke the gears on mine, to get it past tdc u almost had to stand on the kent lol

sorry for not answering ur post but im also keen to know hahaha since its the next job on the list

thats what i mean, and because i put so much force on it ive done some minor damage

i pulled it apart which didnt take long, ive broken both kick start gears (they are toothless in spots) not a biggy just a matter of getting the old ones out a replacing them

panda, take of your right hand side engine cover and inspect the kick start teeth, if there are teeth missing then you have found your problem...

i asked ken at dhz earlier today when i went to pick up a tire and he had parts so if you need the gear his got the bits

and as they say a picture speaks for itself (not the best photo) but here it is, the gear behind the clutch has got more teeth missing (although you cant see) and the other has a couple of sharp pointy teeth

only real main concern is the teeth that i cannot find! either there still in the motor or there in the oil that came out off it

infact i think motoxxx deserves a ban for swearing when its been so highlited the past few months that its unacceptable, letting him go is just bending rules for favourites.

dave, relax!

he is a young bloke give him some slack no harm done

ohkay, so dhz has quoted me $45 chances are when i get there he will say $40!

is anyone aware of what is required, i know i must remove the clutch to get to a gear, but will i have to split the entire motor?

cheers

if its a bike that doesnt start in any gear couldnt you just pull in clutch get past tdc then release clutch and kick it how can a mini bike have to much compression to kick over

motoXXX, im not 18 im older... and stop provoking people

noway 18 u should be able to read by then
im over it, just abit selective with banning people

thanks crazy :) yeh I got the price off dhz the other week just wasnt sure on how to go about fitting them :) thanks for teh heads up I will check the gears next time i se the bike . Pretty sure mine has missing teeth cos when u kick it over slowly it will jump

mine didn't jump much, it just found the missing teeth and wouldn't engage, ill get into the procedure later on when i do it...

okay, so i didnt end up getting photo's nor am i going to do a write up! its dead set simple! it will take about 1 hour... the hardest part is remembering what you have pulled of and where it goes back
