Tassie!!
hey guys my computer has spat the biscuit and I’m slowly getting it back on track a complete re install of windows is what it needs...
dont worry I haven’t giving up on miniriders just cant get on... grrrr

just a question for all you computer lovers out there or anyone else...
thinking of running vista instead of xp home edition any bad experiences with vista??
pros...cons??? might also run dual boot up vista and professional...
please just throw some ideas round.

cheers guys =)

Vista is designed for the newer PCs. If you use it, expect alot of bugs and slow performance.

bugs maybe... got good protection and definatlly not slow performance im running 2gb ram and amd4200+ dual core processer
ive done it before before vista came out i got my hands on a copy and it run fine with all the add ons and widgets and my beast pumped nicly but nothing ran on it at that time but now i thinking bout making the move =)

I heard the graphics/windows are awesome. Like its up there with Apple. But the bugs i'm talking about is the incomplete product they gave us to get this on the market quickly. There will be a whole bunch of add-ins and updates to add to Vista to cover their mistakes, and they call them Service Packs , so it'll be bigger than expected. Sounds like your PC wil cope anyway.

:D

darb...

I myself work in the IT industry and are constantly fixing probs and work with all sorts of machines.

And i can tell you now that i won't be switching to Vista for a while and i have friends that bought PCs that came with Vista and after a month got the shits and went back to XP.

I think the most solid and stable OS (talking windows here) is XP pro with the new SP3 just out.

I know you have a fast PC and it will handle Vista but it will gobble so much ram and resources that it wouldn't run as quick as your machine with XP.

Hope this helps you make a decision in some way.

Sorry in addition to SP3 for XP it's not out yet but SP2 is very solid still the better option to move to XP pro.

Don't go back to home version if you stay with XP.

.

Thats what every one did with windows 2000 when XP came out, because they didnt like XP and it was dodgey and unstable but they got used to it (or they fixed XP), it was never unstable on my computer... I have SP2, on my dads computer which he put together himself it was allways very unstable and crashed all the time, dont know why, his computer has all the latest parts and everything...

vista is so much wierder
just use xp its heepz easy to use and not as slow.

m0p

i can see no real reason to go to vista, unless xp doesn't support your dual core processor, or you have more than 4gb of ram and want to use it all.
i'll be waiting till a few service packs are released.

umm,
well mi old man being a computer nerd we must have the latest even if i hate it, we had vista a few months before the stores did. umm, the graphics, FULLY SICK, but yeh, i would suggest 2 gigs of mem.
our computers have 1 gig and a few hundred gigs of space and that is fine but dad chucks in an exta gb of memory and it makes a difference.
a few cons i have found, maybe it's my computer, well it isn't cos the one in our study does the same but if u like play media (youtube, windows play etc.) and leave it for a while and don't play another songs than it won't do it anymore, with youtube it runs for 2 seconds without sounds and stops no matter how loaded it is and with windows player it shows the song title and doesn't play but in the bottom left corner it still flicks through the song, artist, cd etc. i find this incredibly whacked! the easiest way is a long playlist... and if it happens, just log out and back in and it's fixed.
vista is alot more complex but you'll get the hang of it, xp is more basic but a few years old and if u have enough memory..why not?
that's mi 2 c

xp home = good, vista shit, best bang for ya buck is xp pro, my mates have vista and have had to change back to xp because its so crap. vista was never trailed before it was put on the market so unless you are a computer geek or like having ya comp fixed quite frequently then give vista a miss.

yeh cheers guys =) umm stumbows yeh my brother had his little pc running vista and ended up grabign another hard drive and is running xp pro now case things still dont run on it...
but yeh for sure im not going back to home edition its to bloody unstable!

as you said flarry thats wat will happen people will switch just a mater of time.. i rkn ill get her goin nice and smoothly on xp pro nad yeh wait out for sp3 and then down the track when they finish sorting vista out run a dual boot or something so ive still got pro to fall back on =)

Flarry that's because when XP was released it was very shit and i still think windows 2000 is better and more stable but whatever that's another issue.

Vista is still a baby and very under developed and one day like XP be better OS but for now and this is the issue we are getting at is that you should stick with XP.

And Darb sounds like a smart move.

wtf coolmodee01???
yeh stumbow you and all the guys seem to know there shit... i think its down to personal opinion atm... but im looking for real performance and the less mermory and processor i can have being sucked away for the OS the better... if it aint broke dont fix it... i think ill stick with xp pro..

btw just an update.. just been up my bros where the comp is and got another hard drive to dump my shit onto while i install new OS on mine :) should be up and runnig fast real soon :D

haven't you seen the ad
vista is a pain in the ass i find it really restrictive and so in xp
it doesn't like you changeing registery scripts and things like that
xp is the same
but i might be stuck in the past i i'm still running 2000 sp4 but my pc is most definantly capable of running vista but i dont want it
imo

nah nah too true.. window 2000 is a good OS got that sitting as an image on my not existant desktop atm :p but i think ill stick will pro for the mean time ;):)

btw yeh have seen the ads :p so true =)

coolmodee i agree 2000 is the shiznit my mate has a pretty quick PC and he's running 2000 and man it fucking flies no joke it's so quick.
