Howdy all,

Just brought a new pitsterpro x4r when i ordered it i ordered the OKO 26mm flat side carby and had the dealer fit it straight up. Picked it up Saturday brought it home was running sweet first kick starts but wouldn't start with choke on and once it started and i put choke on it would stall, anyway didn't think much off just wanted to run it in, new bike and all :D

One thing i noticed is it was popping alot from the exhaust which i thought was odd, towards the end of the run in process it started acting weird like would be running fine then the next little twist of the throttle would cause the bike to start and die then if i just maintained the speed and twisted again it would be okay, i thought maybe fuel is low it was but still had enough in the tank to hear it swooshing around in the tank.

Then it was a little hard to start and once started if i twisted the throttle it would stall straight away, once i started it again and take off with next to know throttle and then slowly feed it in it would be okay slow back down stop and back to an idle then crack it again and stall so i am just like wtf :S. I dont really understand what could of changed from when i first got it to now to cause this :S

Took the carby off and apart nothing in it at all jets are free of blockages, main jet is 100 idle is 36 i dont have any other jets that will fit.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated and also where can i buy jets to fit this carby?

Cheers Longy

get a few jets and start working on that. get a 38/98
Check your valve clearances.
What slot is the needle clip on?

Id suggest do valve clearances first : http://www.miniriders.com/motor-tutorials/24965-how-set-valve-clearances-horizontal-engines.html

36/100 should be fine even 36/102 on a 160cc

By the sounds of it u might just need to fine tune the carb .

Try changing the needle position down one to richen up the mixture if it seems worse try going up one and you will soon figure out where it wants to run best.

Also your idle air mixture screw might need re-adjusting now the motor is loosening up .... its an easy process

Start by turning the mixture screw all the way in till it seats in lightly counting the amount of turns it takes till its fully screwed in . write it down somewhere for reference... (in case you bugger things up you can always return it to where it originally was)

Now turn it out 1.5 turns from closed as a starting point ..

Start the bike and let it warm up fully

turn your idle up a tad till u get a decent fast idle

Now slowly turn the mixture screw either way from your starting point of 1.5 turns and listen for the fastest smoothest idle point and stop re-adjust your idle down and your done !

As for the choke mine dont like to really run great with it on either ...

My start procedure : choke on when cold , 2 kicks and she starts , leave it on for 5-10 seconds then choke off and hold the throttle open a bit for a min or 2 and shes ready to go

Its the mixture screw. Screw it all the way in then back out a tad while running, play around with it when you find the point you can reef that sucker round as quick as you want and it wont die. When fitting okos to both my bikes i found the exact same thing, my mixture screws are only half turns out, i know everyone says its meant to be 1 and a half but it works for me. See what works for you.

if its only half u need to change your pilot bud ;)

Do i go up or down, cause at the moment both bikes are running great as is, idles perfect and no bogs anywhere i also plug chopped both and the plugs are perfect

you would have to go up a jet size ....

You can try a bigger pilot but if its running as perfect as you say they are maybe leave it

Ive got two z160's one of them likes 1-1/4 out and the other 1 turn out

Both mine are jetted at 36/102

102 is pretty rich for a stock 160 I recon.

Ive tried everything in my two z160's ive got a ton of different jets ..

Not saying your wrong in anyway if thats what works for you thats sweet but....

All bikes are different what works for one might not work for the other theres no one solution for any bike .

Only difference between my two 160's is the mixture screw settings.

They both run nice tan on a wot plug chop

Both run absolutely excellent clean and crisp and pull strong in every gear at any speed.

Ive fine tuned them through trial and error till i found what works best for me.

My 2cents

38/100 or 38/102 is best selection for a 160...

38 gives near perfect mixture adjustment... 36 will run at about half a turn or so...

as said previously, check valve clearances and raise the slide needle (lower the clip on the needle) to remove the hesitation...

also make sure the air filter isnt too oily or dirty...

Thanks so much for all the great information and input, you guys are champs :)

I had a little play with it yesterday i started it let it idle for a bit gave it a rev or two was still bogging but not "as" bad i took it for a strap and acted fine was smooth and pulled hard through all gears :S i shut it off then fuel started coming out the over flow, like would gush out then stop for like 10 secs then gush again and repeat so i pulled carb off and adjusted the float started it back up let it idle gave it a rev still pretty must the same bogging issue.

I played with mixture screw it was at 1 1/4 i put it to 1 1/2 didnt seem to do much but changed the idle to a little lower i think will have a bit more of a play on the weekend thanks again for all the help.

Cheers Longy
