Hello mini riders I have a 2003 JR80 that I lightly power washed the other day mainly the fenders and wheels. Anyhow since then it doesn't want to rev above about 1500 rpms. It starts as with one kick and idles fine but won't take off like it use to. I had rode it all over just the other day and it ran great. Any little bit of throttle now causes it to bog and die out. I inspected the carb and it was clean with no visible crud. I pulled the pipe and it's not clogged up. I'm afraid that maybe a seal has went bad and it is pulling gear oil in and up into the cylinder. Any sort of reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.:angry-smiley-010:
 
I pulled it off and took the bowl off, and blew it out with compressed air didn't see any moisture beaded in there. I can ride it but I'm kinda scared to the way its acting. Seems to have a above normal amount of oil comin out the exhaust.
 
Perhaps water in the ignition system somewhere, I'd pull off the stator cover and make sure there is no moisture in there and check every electric connection. Maybe throw in a new plug, might be a coincidence. If you think you may have gotten water in the fuel tank dump that for fresh stuff, if it runs a mixer check the oil tank too
 
Hmmm, check you don't have water sitting in the stator case, although i doubt that's it?

Pulled the stator case and it was dry as a bone. Dumped the fuel and started with fresh. It does have a oil resivore but I have never used it just mix it 40:1. Let it sit and Idle for a little while it didn't even have time to get hot before it started smoking quite a bit and wouldn't even come off an idle then would blubber out and die. It would restart but not for long. pulled the plug and it has become black and sooty with some build up. Gonna get a new plug tomarrow and give it another lookover. Have had some 2 strokes before but not a whole lot of exps. workin on them. Thanks for the feed back any kind of point in the right direction is welcome. These little motors have been around for a long time. Hopin someone would know whats going on.
 
also check your killswitch cables and connectors are not shorting out at all
 
Well paranoia got the best of me guys. My cousin had had my bike or actually my boys bike when it went to the crapper, so I didn't really what happen. Turns out dumpin my fuel, putting in a new hotter plug, and takin my core out of the silencer and cleanin it out plus drillin a few extra holes for good measure and she's back to former glory!!! Thanks for the advice.
 
Good to hear, thats why I hate lending bikes out, everyone else rides it like they stole it
 
sounds like you need to burn the carbon/oil out of the expansion chamber too when you get a chance.

it could have been a few things,
water in the kill/run switch,
water on the ignition coil,
water inside the spark plug cap (make sure your cap has the rubber seal in it, or buy a silicon cap)
put some dielectric grease inside the spark plug cap on the terminal,
on the electrical fittings/terminals/connections of the loom, switch contacts etc helps keep them waterproof and clean.
you can pick up small tubes at Supercheap etc for about $5





 
I think the real culprit was me mixin my gas a little rich and the boy lugging it around the muffler was horrible took a propane torch to it and burnt it out. How is a good way to burn out my expantion chamber I've got an ox/act torch and I've heard of this bein done. Definitely need to hit all my connections with some dielectric. Thanks again guys!!
 
i burn the carbon oil out of the expansion chambers with an LPG torch, and compressed air
i've done my DS80, PW50 and IT200 all the same way,
