hey guys,

i was wondering if i change my piston rings on my moto do u need to get a engine rebuild front and rear cause i got a quote that if u change the piston rings u need a engine rebuil cause otherwise the crankcase will split vertically and i dont wether this guy is havin me on or not.

thanks

no you only take the head off
dont need to split engine casings
hope this helps it sounds like the guys trying to rip ya off

thanks for that cause i dont know much bout motos and i didnt want to spend $450 on a engine rebuild so i can just change the piston rings and the crankcase wont split?

I said this before in another thread, replace your engine with pedals and u have no more problems

yeh you should be able to do it yourself as long as you have all the tools and a bit of know how if you have any problems then just ask on the forum and well help you out.

only a sledge hammer will make your crankcase split LOL

why does it need new rings??? blowing smoke and low compression?? how old is the motor?

new rings shouldnt be too hard to do, but unless the motor is over 5 years old you would wonder why it needs it done... but hey you can get a brand new oil cooled lifan 140 delivered to your door for $329 so why pay for a rebuild

if you gave it a really soft run in, never cranked the throttle open and never revved it out, and let it idle for ages during the run in then im not supprised the rings dont seal real well

SHUT UP, your not funny, go away.

OK GUYS ENOUGH.
Lets try and keep things civilized, and adult like.. even those who are 12-17! When you respond to posts like this its satisfaction for them. best option is to let him be how he is.. it cant be helped.. ignore it, report it, dont give it amuntition..

See the little Exclimation(!) mark... USE it.. thats why it is there..

there is a few ways of seing if you need new rings. One is the smoke coming from the exhaust, its carbon coming from the rings, the other is take your dipstik out and check if you can smell fuel in it. that means you do, the motors still work but not as good and probably damages them in the long run
