it sure can, and is strongly suggested to be done.
as for bearing supply, im afraid im not much help as i dont live there but bring it to a reputable machine shop, explain what you want and most likely they can get the proper bearing for you.
The bearings are press-fitted and are locked in place by a circlip, just to give you an idea on how ours was done.

My swingarm on the thumpstar come standard with needle bearings in the swingarm. Ive seen kits in US based Minimoto mag.
