hey ,

whats the point with the copper washes that go under the head bolts?

iv always wounderd if they did anthing

thanks

on mine its olny got a copper washer on one bolt all the rest are normal,do ya know why this is???

i aint checked mine yet but i think mine has 1 asweell , why???

what if i dont put these on???

Copper washers prevent oil from leaking, one is needed for the top left engine bolt I think it is, because theres an oil passage under that one or somthing, thats what it looked like when I took my engines apart anyway, and oil leaked from that bolt when I didnt have a copper washer.

The copper washer goes under the nut on the bottom right hand stud which is the oil supply gallery ... It expands as the engine gets hotter and maintains proper tension on the stud to minimise the chance of a leak ...

Copper head gaskets work the same way ... Copper can expand to fill uneven gaps and keeps readjusting itself every time it heats and cools ...

Hmm on my honda its the top left stud.. or atleast thats where oil leaked from?
