hey guys

just wondering if anyone has had any real trouble with the wheels, specifically the spokes. i know the a few guys out there with good old china's and some with bikes off ebay case my first bike i got off ebay and that was good but i gave that abit of a hard time on the wheels and that cost me case i had trouble with the wheels but now ive got a new bike and ive had the same problem i don't really know where the problem is i think its in the anodized rim some can be pretty weak so ive sent my wheels in and im getting 2 new spoke kits and 2 new sm pro rims!!

yeah i know you should always check em and nip em up if there loose but still doing that they snap.

so anyones else had problems??
any ideas how the stop it??

hey man thats what happened to my firstr pitty i took it to a gay in penrith and he re spoked the whole rim and i never had a problem with them still

go to a bike shop and ask them if they will respoke your rim for you i think mine cost me 150 bucks thats with all new ones

yeh bro im getting both my wheels re spoked and getting new rims so hopefully thats gunna help but i was told the porbblem is case of the massive bend in the end of he spoke thats when they snap..

do your spokes have lik a 90 degree bend on the end where they sit in the hub or is it less lik a 45 or something

case the more the bend where they connect with the hub the weaker... was gunna get new hubs so i didnt have that big bend but there tooo expensive

If you have cheaper cast hubs with a spoke which has a 90 degree bend in them i think youll still have hassles. On my old bike i have the same sort of issue, cheap cast type hubs with a 90degree bend in them and i have on several occasions respoked them with high quality stainless steel spokes and after a while they still fatigue and break. Loctite wont help and often makes things worse as you cant adjust the spokes without them breaking. On my new bike which has straight pull spokes and nice CNC machined hubs i havent even had to re adjust the spoke tension after a few weeks of riding hard now.
Thats what makes the difference, good hubs and straight pull spokes. So it might pay for you to just buy new wheels rarther than rebuilding wheels etc. It will probably be cheaper too.

yeh thats wat im thinking but still new wheels arnt cheep so im just gunna try this set up and see wat happens but mite end up with new wheels who nos

Seriously, save your cash and spend a couple bucks extra on all new wheels now and it will be a whole lot cheaper than rebuilding wheels now and then 3 months down the track buying new wheels anyway. Spend the money to save money!

Lol I have trouble with my spkes becomming so loose its not funny, Atm the whole front rim moves left to right every spoke is loose :S

yeh man i did that with my wheels but with cable tires and that wasnt too bad but they still loosen... i went into thinking id just get yeh new wheels but the the guy in the shop couldnt match a hub so in just running with my old one and some bigger thinker heaver duty spokes and see how that goes but still hubs are lik $500 each and im not that rich atm but i rkn ill have to get a job =P

I'm not sure cable ties would be strong enough to hold the spokes together properly, they may not break easily but they will have a lot more give and stretch than wire.

yeh i kno.. i found that over time ;) the wire though isnt a bad idea ;) might try it

did u do it straight away??

All that and not one bit of punctuation. Makes for a very hard to read question, so I didn't bother finishing, sorry.

with all my pitty rims the spokes become loose real easy so this time with my new rims before the tyres went on i got some loctite the clear one cant remember the number and put a few drops on the top of the spokes were the tighting screw is an a few drops around it because my thinking is i dont want my spokes to come loose an if the tighting screw (dont know what its called lol) cant vibrate loose then obviously the spokes wont come loose and if its glued onto the spoke it wont move

but i dunno it was an idea the rims aint on the bike yet so dont know if it works but what do you all think of my doing it??

p.s sorry if i didnt explain it right i can never explian what im tryin to say when i type

yeh that seems lik a good idea and loctite is bloody strong but do u think locting it then they wont loosen but then i spose you cant tighten them too....

i spose if there not gunna move then why should you need to tighten them but trust me weired things have happen..

p.s pegleg im not here for a dam english lesson.. ive got a problem and just looking for some advice doesn't seem lik any1 else had a problem with all that!

The clear loctite is actually a higher end or glorified version of super glue. Not a great idea on spokes. My experience with loctite on spokes both bicycle and motor cycle is that it doesn't help. The spokes will still stretch a little and become loose and then you cant tighten them as the nipple and spoke are stuck together and then they snap.

Atomik have cheaper CNC hubs for straight pull spokes, MOJO make available complete wheels for a good price too, just hunt around youll find some wheels, there are options out there just depending on the size etc that you require...
