So I found a great drifting spot on this huge patch of grass the other day. I spent ages just learning to drift across this particular slippery patch of grass. This is right next to an outdoor hockey court. I noticed that the court was open and you could walk right in. There was no-one around so I thought I'd have some fun.

Turns out this court is plastic turf, with sand. Just imagine- the most tractionless surface on earth x100000. It was incredible! I was sliding like no tomorrow. I got the most massive 3rd gear drifts, I was really giving it. Most of the time it would catch and I'd almost fall, but I managed to balance myself okay. Unfortunately though, it caught and I didn't manage to keep her up. I jumped out of the way and the bike fell down on it's side (not too fast). When I got up the clutch handle had snapped of (****** chinese tin-metal). This is the second time it's broken coming off lightly! The handle is okay, but the bracket is snapped, that'll be about $25 yeah? :(

If I'd had 5 more minutes of drifting it would've been worth it :D

Yeah Ive broken 100 levers and they're about $15, not $25, try loosening the bolts on the lever mount so the mount spins on the handle bars instead of the lever snapping off, thats saved my lever a few times. ;)

Another option is, halfway through the lever saw through it a bit with a small hacksaw or drill a hole through it so just the end of the lever snaps off, then you can still use the lever and wont have to sit out for the day.

Aww you don't have to sit out, you just go no-clutch! It will be about $25 cos i gotta get the entire mount.

Does not using a clutch screw your gearbox? I heard it's okay on bikes.

use the search button a find out there is about 100 topics of it

Why do you think they have a clutch then? Ovcourse it will be very hard on your gearbox and eventually break it, allways use the clutch, especially when going down gears.

the primary use of the clutch is to slow the gears down so that when they come in contact they are not grinding into eachother

Ive got AVS billet alloy units on one of my bikes, havn't broken a lever since. mind you it cost $130 for one side. But they have a good warranty aswell.

Yeah I need to get them, heard they have a lifetime warranty or was it 5 years?? Dont know.

Ive spent over $100 on levers, not to mention the time off the bike because of it.

I think its a 5 year warranty, either way.. $130 for a lever thats going to last 5 years is cheap in my book.

so what your saying is if you spend 130 bucks
and if it breaks they will replace free of charge for 5 yrs ?

cool

I thought clutches were important in cars, but on bikes just eased changing gears.

So I've fixed it up now. I bought a $20 motovert clutch housing, or whatever you want to call it. Because it's motovert will it be a bit better? Not $130 better, but better than Pitpro?

Cheers for the help.

it's okay if you use no clutch while goin down gears cause you usually aren't going to be revving (or putting stress on the gear box) while goin down gears but i dont know about goin up

Its more the opposite of that.

I wouldnt ever shift without the clutch on a chinese engine but when racing you shift up without the clutch to save time.

ur wrong imagine looking at ur gearbox on the inside and see spinning gears going extremely quick now imagine those gears hitting eachother
result wont be pretty
