just bort a new lifan 125 for my thumpstar runs great but its hard to change gears, and getting into neutral ect. whats wrong is it just because its new?

lifan engine ith the gear pattern 1down 3 up are notorious for bad gear changing especially when they slip from say 3rd to n when your wanting to go into 2nd but i havent heard of this happening with a brand new engine but if its not slipping and its just hard to change gears in general that could be your clutch im guessing ,after you got the engine you didnt touch anyof it did you you just bolted it straight in?

click your bike into 1st and lift the ass of the bike up, if the back wheel spins the clutch isnt engaging properly and thats where your problem lies. if you do this the the wheel doesnt spin i would say just ride it in for a little while longer, change your oil and see what happens.

sorry cant be of more help.

Cheers, Tony.

it spins heaps when i lift it up with the clutch in how do i fix it? i ajusted the clutch all the way out but when i do i cant start it cause the clutch is engaded. when i put it to the point where i can start it the wheel spins still any idears???

what part of the clutch did you adjust if you only adjust ed the cable you can adjust it more by taking the chrome casing off the side of the clutch caseingwith 2 screws i think they are and then wiht one hand hold the locker nut with a 10mm spanner and crack the nut (undo)and with the other hand adjust the tiny flathead screw clockwise about 1/4 of a turn then tighten the locker back up and test if its to much and there is no conectiong between the kickstart and the gears then turn back a little this should help if no amount of adjustment work then maybe you should take it to a mechanic and ask for there help. sorry if these instructions arnt very clear

i dont get that if you click it into first the back wheel is ment to move no?

to my knowledge not with the clutch ingaged, its supposed to be stationary.

i could be wrong but from all the bikes i have seen around the place (mine inculded) the back wheel doesnt spin with the clutch in.

sounds clutch related the problem but will have to wait what other members of the forum say.

Cheers, Tony.

I think it has somthing to do with the clutch not disengaging properly.

I posted this on another site and seems relevent
If the clutch is Harder than hell , sounds internal, on my gpx motor theres a little flat tab on the inside of the clutch cover that wasnt seated properly and my bike never disengaged properly , i put up with it for ages until i thought id have a look see, and just fiddled with it and it come good..

(when the clutch is playing up it wont help with the gear changes so this might be a good idea to look at.)

If it is just tight gears when changing, spend a day riding it a go up and down through the gears alot then do an oil change, use good oil and see how it goes.
I have been using Belray thumper oil and it has improved the change
action in a big way. almost as smooth as me Katoom
