I've been playing around setting up a cheapish ok quality helmet cam... This is what I've done so far for about $400 including pocket sized recorder, it records about 80mins at 640x480 30fps Xvid... Not the best quality but it's ok...

Still needs some work, like a sun shade to cut out a bit of the bright light so the colours are better (but that was a **** day)... also, the cutting out was due to a dodgy power connector... and I need a bit more foam over the mic...

Here's a 1min sample at the quality it comes of the cam... Be aware it's 15meg, so it'll take a while if your on dialup...

Helmetcam-1min-15meg-AVI

Best to right click on the above link and hit "save as"...

If it doesn't play you probably don't have an Xvid codec installed, you can download it here >> Xvid

If anyones interested I'll post the details of what gear I'm using...

looks heaps good man. I thought it would be alot shakier.

need to ride a lil faster?? :p

How bout some jumps or something?

wind noise is a bit annoying, that added foam shud fix it tho ;-)

I was just pottering around, I'm more a trail rider than a MX track rider ;)

There was some decent air around the 37sec mark ;) ... the camera doesn't do it justice..

The wind noise from riding wasn't too bad, the gale force winds we had that day were the main problem ;)

thats preety sweet bru...if only i had 1 wen i went 4 my night ride in the wet maxed out in 4th.....

wat parts u using for such a device?

Cheers!!

Mic preamp kit: $6

(could buy a decent mic with pre-amp pretty cheap)

And a few other bits I already had:
8xAA rechargable battries (to power the bulletcam and mic),
2x4AA battery holders (about $5 from Jacar)
++....

So far I have just used duct tape to hold the bullet cam and mic to my helmet.... here's a pic of the bits I plug into the AV/In on the camera I mentioned above.
Pict0004s.jpg

I just put the camera/recorder and batteries in my DryRider jacket pocket... and plug it's AV/IN cable into the bulletcam and mic plugs up near my neck
Next time I tape it on I'll take some pics of it on my helmet... (just gotta weld the bike up first)

They have some nice products, and no doubt they give great results on a $1000+ videocamera/recorder, I just wasn't willing to spend that much....

At the bottom end of the scale are the all in one little bullet cams that record straight onto a SD card, but they only do 15fps at 640x480 and that's just not a high enough frame rate, the footage would look too jerky, and they only use a CMOS sensor which tend to be grainy and very poor in low light...

Yeh, just the top shocky mount for now, nothing unexpected, the silly Chinese have only used 1mm walled RHS to mount the shocky mount to, and they put the braces around it in the wrong spot so they dont help ... I'll attack it with the MIG and brace it up this week...
I have a spare frame but I'll save that one untill I find all the weak spots and do a good brace job on it...

The little Video camcorder I use for the helmet cam takes quite decent still pics also...
Here's a couple of samples (at a reduced size, origionals are 4080x4080pixels on the high quality setting)

(and no bagging my L-cheapo AGB-27, I'm quite happy with it)

lol... yeh... I'm not keen on anal damage, I often ride 40+km at a time and the standard seat was way too hard and narrow.... it's pretty comfy now, when I pull my finger out and buy a bit of vinyl I'll trim the foamrubber and staple a cover over it properly....

I run a $35 Cateye pushbike speedo to keep track of my K's... have done around 400km on the bike since April with no real damage other than the top shock mount.... but I tend to do a fair bit of preventative maintenance..

I hit a low ringlock fence head on at about 60kmh a month or so ago and flipped the bike end over end, worse bike accident I've had in my 25 years of riding, the bike was unharmed other than a bent front brake lever, and a few scratches... (I recieved a couple of broken ribs ;) )

The property in the vid is a friends 1600acre farm on the Tasmanian Midlands... The pics are on my 180acre property on the edge of Hobart, most of it is pretty steep, but good fun on a little bike....

Nice looking bike, and nice view, where was the pics taken?
