hey guys

im new to this website and also new to bikes

i have been mainly into cars/drifts but my gf and her brother hvae got me into bikes

so i brought a little 50cc thing nothing special for a little fun, then the other day a mate told me i could have his atomik prox 250cc 4 stroke for a carton of beer, its a 2007 model and hasnt been started for about a year

i changed oil, spark plug and got it started the other day runs awsome

now what do i do? seeming it a older bike and hasnt been riden for a while whats the best way to go i dont wanna blow the thing up..

i replaced a few things like handle bars, kick start, exhaust and cleaned up all the surface rust, repaced most of the bolts and lock tight them. so the appearance and condition of the frame etc is now fine

what i wanna know is whats gonna be the best way to look after an engine that hasnt been riden for ages?

thanks heaps for your help

kris

ps remember i got this for a carton of beer so dont bag it lol

Score!!!!! mate anyone who bags you for this bike, dont listen to em. I bought one of these for my missus, and surprisingly, it's turned out to be a great little bike!! The gen 2 Loncin motor actually outperforms my Atomik Blitz 250 (well it did until i modded the Blitz) and the suspension and braking package, whilst a bit on the short side as far as actual suspension travel goes, is actually pretty good for the sort of bike it is.
My best suggestion with this particular model of bike, is to flush the brake fluid ASAP, as it is of very crappy quality, and i've seen this model of bike blow brake lines and calipers due to the fluid heating up too much, too quickly...
In the how to/ tutorial section on this forum, you'll find threads on how best to bleed your brake lines if you arent sure how to do it.
The motors are pretty bulletproof, but keeping the air filter clean, ensuring you have an in-line fuel filter, keeping the carby clean, greasing ALL moving parts and bearings, and changing the oil every 3 or 4 rides will keep it kicking for awhile yet. half of my fleet of bikes are old atomiks and thumpstars, (over three years old) and still run strong and reliable, so maintenance and general upkeep WILL extend the life of these bikes, as with ANY engine/motorbike...
ANother thing to keep track of, is valve clearances... when they start going out of whack, the bike will be tricky to start, idle poorly, and make a lot of rattling noise from the head of the motor...
Again, threads in the Tech and How-to/tutorial sections, will tell you everything you need to know about keeping on top of the valve clearances, and how to adjust them correctly.

Nice bike, good score, and good luck with the maintenance schedule! :D

mineral oil they run a wet clutch still i think

for a carton of beer man if ya get a few rides out of it you scored big time buy another carton and drink that while trying to blow it up and you still out in front good stuff

um maybe change the oil every 20hrs or less

thats bout it

good luck

thanks guys

yeha i wont be doing jumps n **** will just be using it for a bit of fun so hpefully iy does last a while

the frame seems quite strong so hopefully all goes well =)

mate the only stupid question, is the one that gets answered and ignored.. :)
Yeah East 50's is good place to start, Brian is very helpful, very knowledgable on all things minis, and has a pretty good range of goodies...
inline filters can be purchased pretty much anywhere...
where abouts in adelaide are you mate, north or south of the cbd?

oh, and this link will tell you pretty much exactly how to do the valve clearances on a china upright motor.
May the force be with you..

located north of adelaide will get a inline filter today =) thanks for the help
