Hi guys,
Bit of a tech question. I'm going to attempt to fit a pit bike inner rotor kit to a 1986 Honda XR80R. They ran points ignition till 1993 and I want to get rid of that. Does anyone know what angle the keyway in the crank is at when the pot is at TDC? Failing that, does anyone know what part of the inner rotor triggers the hall effect sensor?
I'm looking at an inner rotor right now and I'm seeing an alloy piece with 3 magnets set into it. Is it the spacing on the magnets that causes the fire? The only thing I can see is the 2 of the magnets are spaced 12mm apart and the third has a 20mm spacing on one end and 19mm on the other. The end of one of the magnets is directly opposite the keyway.
The reason I've decided to have a crack at this is the cost. This IRK cost me $45, including shipping from China as opposed to several hundred for a Kitaco for the bike.
If the worst comes to the worst I'll set the IR up without the key and manually change the timing till it fires at the right time. If I can get it sorted I can then get the keyway TIGed up and a new one cut at the proper angle to TDC.
Any insight greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kel
