Just recieved my new MSO bike last night, putting it together tonight.
I know this has been asked before but I have tried searching the forum and I couldn't find a definate answer.

I would like to know which Oil I should use for running in my engine as I don't want to use the Oil that is in there from the factory?
I know it should be mineral based and I have been told that Motul 3100 or 3000 should do the trick but I just want to know for certain which Oil I should use and what weigh/viscosity?

I will be using Motul 5100 10W-40 after the running in procedure.
Cheers
Bob

I used motul pure mineral for the run in. then i went with 3000(i think) Semi-synthetic. I reckon use a mineral for the run in. Then a mineral again for your 1st oil change. Then go with the Semi-synthetic.

motul 5100 is all u will ever want to run.

Well they say to use Mineral based Oil for running in and 5100 is not Mineral it is Synthetic, I will use 5100 when finished running in.

So which Mineral Oil should I use?
Name?
Weight/Viscosity?

type of oil isnt really super important. Its more important to change your oil freqently during run in... bits of casting can come loose, metal shavings from the bore/rings can also contaminate ur oil and cause premature wear.

I ran mine for a while on the stock ****, then flushed it with some magnitec i had lying around and put in some castol mineral based 10-40w.

The reason for mineral oil for the run in is that the synthetics do too good a job of reducing wear and friction. Not good for acheiving a good ring seal, which is vital in the first few runs. Once that chance is lost you can not get it back unless you replace the rings and rehone. A complete ring seal is the most beneficial thing you can do for any motor.

seeming as were on the topic of oil. How do car engine oils go in these bikes? I noticed when i flushed mine with it, my clutch seemed very touchy... would grab really quick, as opposed to a slow smooth engagement.

is mobile semi synthetic 10w 40 a mineral based one?

seeing were on the topic... when i had my old pit bike i run it in with the original oil and it made the gears pop out of gear (so i think) i changed the oil after the first tank with 10w 40, which did help it with the gears poping out... although it still done it? why was that???

mine occasionally pops out of gears, not under power so its not really a problem. Its happened a few times in 2nd when ive been cruising in first and kicked it into 2nd and let it idle. Then go to give it some power and its neutral. not really a worry until it does it under power lol

Just thought I would let you all know that I got some Motul 1000 4t (20W50) Mineral based oil for running in my Lifan Engine, it was $30 for 4 litres.
This oil was recommended to me by 3 different sources.
Cheers

Semi Synth meens its a Mixture of Synthetic and Mineral and Additives..

Motul 1000 is great for Breaking in a motor....Than

Motul 5100 although Motul has a few higher oils now although complete overkill for a pitty no matter how good..

I use 5100 in my GSXR So take it from there Guys and all the best
