250cc max.... anything more would probs kill me :p
not fussed on what model whether its a IT or a RS....all the way up to yz's/wr's and rm's

hmm, i see. there is a seller on ebay, his name is mac.guyver1 iirc? he sells alot of old bikes, old KTM's, rms, etc, but he is in tweed heads. perhaps by looking around, u could get an idea of what you want ?
But the question comes down to what your going to be using the bike for. e.g. VMX, Vinduro, or just a nice old bike to ride around every now and then. So models like rm's and yz's would be good for VMX. models like IT and WR are good for Vinduro, but could be used for VMX (although, i doubt you'll find a WR old enough for VMX or Vinduro, they were brought in as a continuation of the DT sereis around 91 93, iirc?) So have a look around, find what would best suit your needs. i mean, its pretty pointless having a fully souped up race/mx bike sitting there, when you only take it out to put around paddocks.

yeah i reckon Vinduro!! im more of a trail person then a mx/vmx
So why am i asking this to everyone??
I need you to find me one on ebay or gumtree..... (ill be looking too) :p
cheers

the old PE's were a good MX bike, pretty punchy for a 175 too
i loved the sound of the Suzuki's back in the 80's, mate had one.
it looks like the fork springs have sagged a bit, but you can usually buy upgrade/aftermarket ones under $100 a pair if you search a bit
it'll need the usual stuff, new spark plug, oil, burn the crappy oil/carbon from the expansion chamber, repack the silencer etc etc

their no good for VMX, Vinduro with the disc front end

the 465 and 490's are good for huge paddocks, super long straights etc
you will wear yourself out, trying to ride a track with a heap of corners, as they don't turn too well

well, that's until you work out how to powerslide them,
back down a couple of gears, break traction, power on, drift it sideways through the corner and back into it again....

i rode my first IT465 when i was 18,
scared the life out of me many times, hitting powerband in every gear, and the front pops up at with a touch of the throttle.
and kicking them over, i'm suprised i didn't break my ankle

Lol.... this would be my first 2 banger aswell!!
so ill try pull some strings :p
The PE175 should be good ..... thats if it dosnt kill me :p, nahh i should be good with it...

26hp @ 9500rpm, WOT in 6th gear..........you have a lot of fun,
probably with a few hiccups along the way too, but it's all part of the fun that comes with owning older bikes.

it's got me thinking too, i need to make a build thread for my IT200

yeah, the 465 and 490's were probably respnsible for many people walking away from motorbikes, or not being able to walk at all!!
But the PE's are a good bike, tough, reliable, fairly quick and a great project bike!
