A lot of treads recommend the use of loctite on nuts and bolts but i havent been able to establish what grade of loctite to use, any thoughts? Also a lot of guys suggest replacing bolts with high tensile bolts (Is there a problem with any bolts actually snapping) which bolts are they normally referring to?

I am buying a bike next week and want to set it up right first time.

The problem is some of the cheaper bikes use shyt quality metals or cheap arse stainless in the bolts , and can snap ... or the other issue is it treaded into a alloy frame and bonds together inside (thus needing antisense not loctight)... thus the need for high tensile... Ive only had one bolt issue and it was the chain adjusters on the swingarm.. They bent and when i tryed to get the bugger out it snaped in half.

Ive gone and changed all the stainless bolts on my bike to a better quality stainless, because the ones that were on the bike were starting to rust (last time i checked stainless doesn't rust) , The only places ive really used locktite is on the rear sprocket, it gets a hard time and was all ways coming loose.

i use loctite 243 its a red bottle an the glue is blue i would reconmend using it on all your bolts because the bolts ive used it on havnt came loose but the ones i didnt do have vibrated loose so do it too all your bolts it takes a little time an you dont have to worrie about checking an tighting bolts after every ride
as for the bolts i have replaced all the original bolts on 1 bike gotta do it to the rest
the origianl ones are cheap steel im not sure what type they rust an snap i was tighting up some bolts when i first got the bike an snapped two bolts

yeah your most important to change to high tensile would be your engine mount as Dreadful said, then your axels and swingarm bolts. for locktight i would put it on parts of importance so this means things like tripple clamps (dont want to go over a jump and as you hit the upramp have the left side sink inches and land in a mess) engine bolts also and axles, then look into putting it onto your bar clamp bolts, heat dispersant plate on your exhaust etc etc.... you dont need to pull down the entire bike but just think about how much stress this particular bolt will take, if its under very little stress (example being bolts holding the plastics to the tank) then dont worry about them, just make sure their nipped up.

Cheers, Tony.
