I have a mini dirt bike and have not started it for a quite some time, I tried to start it and it just wont start. The bike is still quite knew and in good condition what would you reccomend.

What kind of bike is it?
check your kill switch, fuel tap, key...
or check to see if you have spark?
If you do have spark then check if your engine is getting fuel...

for starters id recommend you tell the story a little better than you have.

we have no idea what type of bike your talking about..
and we have no idea of what you have already tried in the attempt to get it running..

basic things to try on all engines tho are
inspect the spark plug for spark
clean the carb out
drain any old fuel out of the tank and use fresh fuel

Thank for the replies

Its a pocket trail bike I don't know the make other than that its a Chinise bike.
It has a pull start 49cc engine air cooled. Oh yeah its a two stroke.

The bike is 1 year old but I have not used it that much. So far I have checked the cut out switch changed the fuel, I attempted to take the spark plug out but need to get a different atachment, I have not checked the carb, It did start twice yesterday but cut out very quickly. I have not started the bike for atleast three months I know I should have started it atleast once a week

i just checked the spark plug and its sparking but not everytime, how hard is it to clean the carb for a complete beginer?

Take the bottom part off (bowl) get some pertrol in a ice cream container, rinse it throughly then get an air compressour and blow through the jets.. Really easy.. Or just let it soak in pertrol.

I have had one of these they are a total piece of crap...
You do have spark because it started momentary, What you need to do is clean out your carb.
Take it off and remove the bowel, clean it out these carbs get dirt in them really easy when they have the crap stock filters. Make sure it is all clean inside and put it back on normally a easy fix.

The exact same thing used to happen to me, start for just a bit and then die. Just clean out the carb some fresh fuel mix and your right...

FRESH FUEL AND CLEAN THE CARBIE!!!!!!

let me guess...you just stopped it after riding, and put it in the shed? didnt worry about the fuel thats still in the bowl? or the tank?

next time... drain everything if you arent going to go ridies for a month or more... petrol goes off.. and the smell is very distinctive...

I have just ordered some of ebay as I live in the UK. So do I just spray it on the outside of the carb?

to be honest mate you shouldnt have to put start spray in it. Its 2 stroke, simple simple little machines. If you have spark and its strong then check fuel if thats getting through ok. Then check airways, air box/induction filter isnt blocked or covered in mud etc. Drain all the old fuled out of bike, fresh fuel with slightly higher fuel to oil ratio than standard and maybe even give the spark plug a drink of fuel and then start her up.

They shouldnt be extremly difficult to start up.

Just a wee engine soldier. Pull that like you've never pulled over ;)

you spray the stuff down the carby.. through the air intake... take the filter off and do it.
can i have a link to see the stuff u bought.

peter1230 i was being serious about the start ya barstad it is good...

to get the fuel out of the lines when you finish before you turn off the bike just turn the fuel switch off and and wait till the fuel runs out of the lines and then it will shut itself off

You guys are all missing the point, shouldnt need any 'extra' fluid or start sprays. Unless your a pansy and cant manage to start an engine with elbow grease? Never used a start spray and none of my mates have. Must just be us scottish, if not throwing logs in the air we are pulling away *chug chug* :p
