Hey guys, i have just recently learnt that we have a few musicians among our ranks, and thought it would be a cool idea to have a thread where people could say what instrument they play, what thier skill level is, how long they've been playing, etc.
Ok so i'll start off.
I play drums and have for the past 7 years. i play metal, rock, grunge and a bit of jazz here and there. my kit is pretty old, and it has withstood the contstant hammering of vic firth american classic 5A extreme drumsticks, (and of course the constant drumming jokes) pretty well. i am in a punk/grunge band atm, i was in a jazz fusion band a while ago, but they were all stoners and deadbeats, so i left. but i really enjoy playing music, because when you see someone enjoying it, you enjoy it more! and playing in a band makes such a better musician aswell :).so feel free to tell us what you play, how long you've been playin it and why :)

good idea mate starting a thread for those musically incline.
i started out playing classical piano gave it up when i discovered the guitar .
i currently play a schecter sgr which i have installed some really nice emg pick ups on has a sweet fret board for shredding nice and narrow. im lucky enough to be playing through a original 70s fender twin reverb which is so smooth and warm. ive got a ibanez shredder distortion pedal which really crunches the sound up nice and thankfully our nearest neighbor is a kay away so dont get any noise complaints when i open it right up.
to be honest my skill level is nothing to 5/6 years ago ive broken my fingers a couple of times so just cant get them where i used to be able to.
the highlight in my time playing was grade 10 when our metal band got second in the state wide tas music rock challeng. i really thought that band could of got some where but due to the lead singer sticking it up my missus at the time and me wrapping my pride and joy at the time (ibanez monkey grip 7 string) around his head and snapping the neck on my poor baby we broke up and never really spoke again.

wow man, nice guitar! my lead guitarist has a ltd viper or something, and he just recently installed emg's on it and it tottaly improved the sound! he runs a pevey (is that how u spell it??) studio pro 117 with a boss me-25 multi-effects pedal. he's after the raw metal sound, so that setup works best for him. shame about the missus dude, that must have really sucked :( and i would say my skill level on a scale of 1-10...maybe a 6-7?? i dont really know, alot of people say im my harshest critic, lol.

the emgs are a sweet pick up for sure gave my guitar a real kick compared to the stock os. Peavey are a good metal amp i just love tubes, some ppl say they are to warm for metal but i disagree lol. yeah it did suck but in hind site better to have happened then rather than 2/3 yrs down the track when it was serious...
and a true muso always judges himself a touch harshly, ive been told by a few mates to get back out there and start a proper band but its just a fun thing for me now... id probably say a 5-6 out of ten for my self these days (would of rated myself higher a few yrs ago for sure but i just cant pull of the massive triplet solos i used to crank out steve vai style any more). its a shame ya all the way over there would have been sick to have a jam then a ride ;)

yeah, they are pretty good, his peaveys great, cos you dont have to crank it up to get a loud sound, and it doesnt distort too much when on high volum and some crazy effects! Glad to see you see things positively, live life to the fullest! if it aint good, make it good!! and yeah havin a jam and a ride wouldnt be a bad idea!, i once went to tassie, on the spirit of tasmania (fing sick boat!!) and we stayed at a mates place, all i remember was that there was a bunch of farms for bees and other stuff and it was cold enuf to freeze yuour balls!! but yeah the country out there is real nice and green, i thnk we were near devonport? but yeah we went around to a bunch of vintage-style shops and it was pretty sick and plus we didnt have to pay for a thing, so that made things a bit nicer ;)

I've been playing guitar for 8 or so years, I played pretty much anything but more rock. Only had a nylon acoustic and starter pack fender strat.
After afew years I started playing a lot more rock and metal and started to enjoy guitar heaps more after I found the band called avenged sevenfold and found more bands like them and my playing excelled much more my guitar teacher and friends said, then on Christmas mum and dad got me my favorite guitar which is my favorite guitar players guitar (synyster gates from avenged sevenfold)
Then a year or 2 later dad came home with a black bc rich beast V which is one of Kerry king from slayer guitar models.
Got his white and gold schecter synyster gates custom. Played everyday for 3 years after that till now I've pretty much stopped. Trying to play again but I have some skin irritation on 2 fingers which sucks
My amp is a line 6 spider III

yeah tassie is a beautiful place devonport is only about 40mns drive from where i live. it is cold in winter but summer is the bomb :) if your ever down this way again drop me a line and we will catch up.
probably the best guitar amp ive ever used was a 200w tube pre amp line6 onboard effects and sh#t you got the best of both worlds with that thing ;)

sweet dude! Avenged 7fold are pretty sick! nightmare and blinded in chains are probs my favorite songs by them, bit i havent listened to 'em much iether, Sweet score the guitar! at my school theyhave a line 6, it has an "insane" setting which i love, not because of sound, but simply cos its pretty damn insane lol. how long did you take lessons for? i've been takin em for 5 yrs now, and i've found it so much easier to play when you have someone that has had much more years of experience behind them showing you step-by-step how to play something :)

avenged sevenfold do a really good job straddling the rock/metal genre. i can imagine your face seeing that guitar on Christmas day would of felt like the best day of your life :) the line 6 i played through (cant remember its specific title) had so many effects and emulators i got lost for about an hour just experimenting.

and your dead right blender tuition or even just playing with ppl beyond your skill level improves your playing at such a quicker rate than just playing and learning songs by yourself.

Drums, did lessons for about a year.. etc not the best and cant really make up beats and whatnot yet
my kit is a dtxpress iv electric heres a pic of the same kit as mine

i would like to go to the material pads as they feel much nicer and then i would not have to use the heavy sticks so much

7 and a half years till I moved away from Melbourne.
He was really good could learn most songs in afew minutes by ear. Wish I could still have lessons with him but oh well

I just got their last album which I really like, like all the songs but really like coming home.
My
Favorite songs are beast and the Harlot, almost easy, nightmare, afterlife, seize the day, to end the rapture, pretty much most of there songs lol

Love the schecter Floyd rose Is good fun, was the last one in aus and got damaged in shipping (lucky it's only a little unnoticeable bit) and the other one got compeltely destroyed in shipping so was lucky. Wanted the black and red but was going to be like a year waiting if i was lucky, but I'm really happy with the white and gold one. Used to attract a lot of people at my old school, i rarely played in the classes or concerts which I guess I should of tried more but I didn't really like been on stage

Im a bass player by title? but i usually drag out the guitar (bass is a bit boring by yourself) Guitar is just a generic little yamaha? But my bass is a resonable 82 Fender Precision, weighs about the same as a small car LOL, and a Lenard valve amp with some of dads home made 18" bins, but my favorite toy is my pedal, .... One of these

Dont use it to half it's potential and I brought it near 15 years ago. As far as skill level goes, i be around the 3/10 id say, dont get to play it anywhere near enough these days, living in a town house does me no favours there, the neighbors get enough noise from the bikes :)

great to see a few ppl out there love the music as much as their bikes lol... those boss effects boards rock, i reckon you would get a sweet sound out of the lenard and 18s to

exactly! good to hear there a few of us, music is one of those things that just gets you like a disease, lol. once you've played infront of a live audience, and you get that feeling of elation, you just want more! and when your having fun on stage, the crowd enjoys it alot more, stage prescence is really something that should be used more! and the good thing about music is that its never gonna go out of fashion, i teech some guys how to play and all their mates give 'em crap for being "band nerds" but eventually they all came to me to teach them! maybe i should start a business or something ;)

Ha, just read all those other posts and was like "Wow, glad my nearest neighbour is 1-2 clicks away" ;)

I played in my school band did like three performances Was a mad head rush when everyone was playing in time the singer was singing and the smoke and lights and whatnot
i may not be good at making up solos and whatnot but i have been told my head is a metronome

yup, that moment when the thrill of playing overcomes the nervousness of stuffing up is great- thats when you really start to enjoy it all :)

also anyone in to tool here? there probs one of my favorite bands atm, danny carey is a sick drummer!
