first thing i would look at is to see if there is valve clearance just by eye to eliminate that the valves arent being held open

remove valve caps, turn over motor , wiggle rocker to see that there is clearance

Lol, just to check have you got the spark plug screwed in ?

plugs in dude!

nah clutch adjustment was too tight.

starts like a dream, just gotta go run it in now.........

got step by step pics of engine swap if anyone is interested - i aint no mechanic but it was pretty easy (other than that hiccup).

Do you mean the clutch was adjusted to tight at the lever? I had what seemed to be no compression in an engine ages ago & I never got to the bottom of it.

yes , if the clutch is slightly engaged the engine will seem to have no compression, unless your engine is the type that will start in any gear.

Yeah, we had the engine out and checked the spark plug, valve clearances, even checked the bore and still couldn't get to the bottom of it. But we never checked the clutch. Any ideas cause i'm buggered if we could figure it out and now i just gotta know.

dissconect the clutch cable from either end . this will totally release any applied pressure to the clutch and all should work. if so you know when you re fit the cable , make sure the adjustment is not tight.

mine was a thread about half way along the cable under the front guard. i had to totally release it to unhook the cable off the motor and when i put it bac on i tightened it bac to what it was. somehow the two engines must be different and the cable was too tight. its gunna b easier adjusting it on that thread rather than at the lever (if uve got it)

if the clutch is 2 tight the clutch wont engage the engine properly and wont kick over. if its 2 loose iit will kick over easily but u wont be able 2 change gears well as it cant fully dissengage the transmision and be rather ruff changes.
