new chain help...!

hey i just built up a new bike and the chain i have is to small. it was off another bike from which i used some of the parts off in the build. i was wondering how to tell how long it is and what size chain to get etc as i have no idea. the only thing the chain says on it is ELC 420 on every link if that helps.

chain will either be 420 or 428 pitch
that chain you have there is a 420 pitch by the numbers you have shown, just make sure it is the correct one for the sprockets you are using.
From memory every pivot pin is counted as a link or something. Was the case with my RK Gold chain anyways. Normally if you buy a new one it will be a tad to long and you just have to cut the extra links off.
