my manuel says to use 10W-40 although im wondering if i can use other grades of oil. also whats the different grades mean? thanks

its the viscosity rating,

so a 10w40

means the viscosity/flow rating when the oil is cold is rated at 10w

and the 40 is the rating when the oil is at 100 degC (hot running engine)

the lower the number the quicker it will flow, (lower number = thinner oil)

i would stick with 10w40 in ya bike, thats what its designed for so use that only,

cool. can i use premium unleaded? will it gain abit more power?

You should use premium only IMO.

explain as to why you think premium or high octain gas wil help your bike?

Is it modified, any compression differences, huge timing advancement?

I noticed a considerable improvement in power and response using BP Ultimate 98 Octane over using regular 91 Octane unleaded.

faster top speed, better pickup and stronger midrange.

you might find you need to richen the bike a bit though.

probz:::: just tried 20W-50 oil and put a new fuel filter on.. same size as the stock one and the bike just clogs if thats the word lol.. i accelerate and it dies down.. cant even rev it hard cant go out of first.. is it the oil im using should i change back to 10-40 or something else? thanks

the oil wont cause that problem, seeing you also changed the fuel filter, its likely to be that, sometimes the filters if they are not placed properly can take awhile to fill up, cause air gets trapped in them,

on the oil, you really should use 10w40 doesnt matter what brand, they not designed for 20w50

hmm.. the fuel filter is from repco and has an arrow pointing to one way.
i connected it up so it faces away from the carby like
_______ _______________
_______ <--_______________ { carbie }

maybe the arrow should face the carbie??? dont think so though

also this oil is on special will this do.. i used to use castrol magnatec 10-40 but found this on special...

VALVOLINE SYNGARD 10W-40 for $29 5 lt

the arrow should be POINTING AWAY FROM THE FUEL TANK, (pointed to your carby)

the arrow respresnts the FLOW OF FUEL FROM THE TANK,

so imagine the ARROW is coming out the tank into your carby,

lmao so i got it the wrong way around.. i thought the fuel goes through the carb from the opposite way.. oh well ill change it over and ride it tomoz and ill tell u how it went.. thanks for all the help.

but wait a sec.. when i undo the hose from the fuel filter and turn the tap to on.. fuel flows towards the left through the carb and out..

Umm Im very sure the 40w stands for cold viscosity. 10w is for hot,
Hot is most important as too thick will hurt performance. 20w would be too thick for a tight new engine I would go at the most 15w. Maybe as engine got older you could use standard 20w50 motor oil.

ok thanks guys ill try it tomoz.. if that doesnt work i think i need to drain the oil and put some 10-40 in.. hopefully the filter is just the wrong way round..

without sounding rude your wrong sorry,

first number is cold start up viscosity, second number viscosity tested @ 100degrees

Who cares 10W 40 is wat u run these things on i use Castrol 4T and its probaly the best

Another thing I noticed on mine, the hole at the base of the tank was tiny! I bored it out and now there is a good flow as previously the fuel was literally trickling down the fuel line.
