im looking at buying a orion 250, i would like some info on them what they are like and how they handle and stuff, this will be my first "big" bike, im 6''4' and weigh about 105kg but am too scared to get a 450

Hey mate, welcome to Miniriders. I have a Chinese 250, although not an Orion, an Atomik. Its alright, good for the money, but if you want to do anything MX track related, I'd probably want to go for a Japanese 250 4 stroke or 125 2 stroke. But for general trail/bush riding it will hold up fine. Here is a few reviews that will help you out a bit. My 250 review/build up is in my signature.

Is there a model your looking at in particular?

a 2008 orion 250

Steer clear of Orion mate trust me they are a nightmare in the making

its not for any serious riding, just a few trails and stuff like fire trails and what not, just to be out and riding with mates

I reckon it'd be fine for that, on the early Orion 250's the front forks where ridiculously soft, people could bottom them out just by pushing down on them. I know with later models Orion fixed this. But keep in mind Chinese 250's are well below Jap standard, things will break, and they are not really that fast. They have the top speed on their side, but acceleration is fairly limited, unless you do a gearing change, and that will just lower your top speed. the engines, as far as I've read are bulletproof, mine has been reliable so far, but I change oils and clean filters just about every ride, and do valve clearances every 3-5th ride.

welcome to Miniriders,

don't forget to drop by and say hello in our Introduce Yourself thread too while you're here.

cheers, craig
