So there I was today, having a meander around the bush, putting along reasonably slow just picking my way through things. Bumped into a log whilst riding uphill, nothing mental, and stalled out. Kicked it over, and it kicked back at me. Again, and it popped/backfired. A whisp of white 'smoke' or vapour comes out the air filter as I look down. I look up, then back down and the farkin thing is smoldering. Another 2 or 3 seconds, and the thing has flames coming off it 400mm high (my freakin eye level!!!!) I $hit, drop the bike, then pick it up again real quick when I remember the fuel will start to overflow. I can't get to the fuel tap, the fuel line is actually IN the fire and I'n **** out of ideas.

I kick the air filter as I'm not going to grab the friggin thing, and it falls to the ground, then proceeds to set the leaves on fire... I get most of them stamped out, and check for damage. Filter, gone. Fuel line, well singed, and to kick me in the teeth, the front tire is flat...

What a day...

So do I approach pitpro, or is this 'normal'.... The bike was run in gently for the first tank, and now I'm still learning to ride the thing. Its done about 10 hours riding.

WTF?!

ouch, havent heard of that happening. I wouldnt bother with pitpro, they wont do anythin to help, you'll just have to replace the parts that are damaged

must admit readin that made me laugh though, would have been funny ro watch, lol

sounds like you just got worst case scenario of a leaking inlet valve.... a flame actually made it out of the cylinder back through the carbie and set your filter on fire:eek: nice one:) or, cause of the waste spark on the exhaust stroke, while both valves are slightly open at tdc, same deal...a flame has made it up through the carbie and ignited your fuel soaked filter....

or you got a case of spontaneous combustion...spooky ****!:p

ditto...WTF? never seen it happen before...though my old kawasaki 750 always singed its air cleaner to an early death....

damn you! we want videos of this!!!!!!!:p

yeah, I'll be honest, fark that happening again! I was a little bit 'suprised' when it happened, let me tell you!

I've got a ski boat with a holley carb on it that it happens sometimes, bit thats good for a giggle, but hell not when it burning the fuel line....!

I've sent PP an email, see what comes of it I guess...

re: the carby, I've got a house to settle in a few weeks, but hey, suggest me something thats going to be an improvement, with somewhere I can buy online and a simple bolt up, and I'm all ears. I'm not a motorbike guy (yet) so you gotta talk slow and loud to me...

I don't mind the current one, seems to go, but the bike sure is hard to start... Its got a flat spot on WOT (wide open), but that is just an adjustment thing I'm sure. We'd always like more crisp power, so what'cho got?

ash.onmtb is this the carb you have now? I'm also interested to see what people recommend as an upgrade, I was looking into oko 26mm flatslide but after researching that doesn't look like a good carby for trails. so yea, what's a good upgrade?

i just upgraded to a molkt 24mm on my yx150 and i couldnt be happier .. nice bottom end with heaps up top... think it was somewhere in the 65-80 dollar range dont remember just swiped the card lol... got well taken care of tho :D

Molkt are cheap china's right? I've heard they're ok but I was at a VERY DODGY local china shop the other day and looked at one of their molkt's it was 24 or 26mm and it felt really stiff and nasty.
so what are molkt really? are there knock offs?

see these two, huge price difference and one has a logo the other doesn't

anyway. I've hijacked this thread too much, I don't think the OP even needed a new carby just filter and lines

hey hey, lets not be stopping the ideas coming! :D

I'm all about more/better so lets keep 'em coming!

I thought Mikuni's were the way to go, whats these molkt things?

Amusingly I didn't receive a reply to my letter to pitpro *sigh*...

Guess I'd best be measuring up the carby and getting myself a new filter in the meantime eh...

Exact thing happened to me last week!! burnt my filter to a crisp and broke the Rubber carby boot that connects it to the manifold!

Really pissed me off a week before the race

Happened with a Genuine VM26mm carb to

oooh that boot might cost ya then

the mikuni on your bike is fake, you didn't reply to the pic I posted ?

Needs to be jetted correctly mate.

Try playing around with your fuel/air screw would be a good start.

Oh and welcome to Miniriders. :)

Do what motorman just said, as in adjust your air/fuel mix my carby isn't setup correty atm and i had exactly the sme problem where it would fire and idle but as soon as you open the throttle it died, turns out it was running way way to lean (wrong pilot jet) so with the air/screw turned nearly all the way it (it runs at 1/4 turn out) it has fixed the issue (almost)

what carby do you have? china Mikuni 22/26mm ?
maybe pull the fuel bowl off and find out what jets you are running now
if it is the Mikuni, i have found they run pretty sweet with either a #20 Pilot jet or even a #22.5 Pilot
