after fixing another flat tire, i was thinking is there anyway to prevent them>

i.e Green Goo stuff in the tube?

those plastic strips you line the inside of the tire with to stop the thorn jacks etc from puncturing tube?

or is it just a case of keeping good tracks and put up with fixing them!!!

also do you guys patch your tubes, or just replace the tube everytime?

Thanks

Are you getting flat tyres from thorns only?? Get a new tyre maybe, I thicker one. I got a puncture from a blackberry thorn a couple of weeks ago and my tyre was almost bald so I think thats why.

Other than that you could get rim locks if you're getting flats from the tyre spinning on the rim and ripping the tube valve out.

And I buy new tubes.

well i loaded the bike on the trailer this morning, tire was fine than, but when i got to the bush, the front was dead flat GRRRR

and when i just fixed it, there was a tiny split on the side wall of the tube, but NOTHING in the tire!!!!

so i thinking maybe when the bike was tied down on the trailer the front tire pinched the tube when pushed up against trailer???

but other than that just thorns,

they are only the stock cheapo tires still, so hopefully better quality ones are gonna be better in regards to thorns etc,

Cheers Paul

like flarry said if its thorns a better quality tyre will help
rim locks are the best they stop the tyre from moving on the rim (best thing to do)
also on the inside of the rim rap some rubber or even alot of duct tape around the top of the spokes it stops the top of the spokes poking holes in the tube

thanks will look at getting some new rubber,

14psi??? i put 14 in just before and they look pretty soft!!! ive been putting 20psi in....

Anything less than 20 or so without rimlocks is asking for trouble, especially on the rear. you'll have a little less traction on most surfaces with the higher pressure, but i'll live with that if it means no pinch flats or torn valves.

Rimlocks are a PITA on big bikes, skinny rims and tyres make them near impossible to fit with my fat fingers :)

always keep your tyres pumped up and iif you can install rim locks

My mates dad got a seat belt and layed it out on the inside around the tyre. It helped for a bit but not really. Its a cheap option

try getting some tyre slim, i got this good one for $23 does about 3 tyres and stops holes that are 3 mm in diameter. after i put this is i have never had a puncture since and i have even been riding through so many prickles that at the end of the day the only way to get them out is with a wire brush, i patch my tyres well i did patch my tyres until i got this slim stuff and haven't had to do it since. its been formulated so it doesn't eat at your tube as well, well worth the $23.

yeha i once got a puncher from thorns but a tube of slime fixed it and i havn't had a problem since and i ride through alot of thorns quite freqently

don't hit sharp stuff... LOL

or run dtreet tyre you never get flats with those! unless you get lazy & the PSI goes down then you rip the valve out
