Hi guys and girl lol, have just bought me and my missus a tdr pit bike to have some fun on. Could any one please fill me in on what oil I should use? I have heard mineral 15w50 is the best option? It's my first bike ever so very new to all this but can't wait to go for a ride haha. Thanx for any input .

Welcome to Miniriders,
make sure you drop by and Introduce Yourself here.

here are a few of the tech tip threads that will help you set up/maintain your new bike/s -

i would drop the oil the bike came with and use some good stuff from the start like the Castrol mentioned above.
Semi Synthetic/Synthetic oils are ok too, just make sure it mentions being ok for use with wet clutches on the bottle too

cheers, craig

That's heaps for the replies guys , can't wait to get the bikes running will be putting them together tomorrow , wish me luck haha. Will check out the links that you posted and hope it helps out with getting started. Appreciate the help. Thanx!

So ive got both bikes built, have only started and rode my own and have a few issues.
Firstly it will only run with the choke on as soon as I turn the choke off it dies? Any ideas what could cause this ? Also any one else with a tdr could fill me in if the kick start thing is really low so not much room to kick start it, sorry I don't know all the lingo and right words haha it's only my first bike, any info would be much appreciated. I'll post some pics of my bike if I can figure out to lol.thanx

the kick start lever is held to the engine by a 10mm headed bolt.
take note of the angle it is sitting at.
take the bolt out and wiggle the kick start lever while pulling it towards you.
now you will see it slides onto the shaft splines.
you should be able turn the kick start lever so it sits at a better angle, and allows for more lever travel too.
when you are happy it's in a good position replace the bolt, and tighten it up, use a drop of Loctite on the thread .

have you sprayed the air filter with filter oil ?
supercheap auto etc sell it for about $12 for an aerosol can
can you confirm the choke is off? eg have you looked in the air filter side of the carby with the filter off ?

have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw on the side/middle of the carby ?
turning it in will raise the idle speed.

just a word of advise on that tdr, dont go jumping it! Not dissing your bike, just letting you no the frames are well known for breaking on the tdr pro's, my sister in law broke her's quite quickly, the shell of it is sitting outside growing rust now lol

Be sure to tighten that kick start bolt before kicking..
Also when the starter gets older in life, look for signs of the end folding down leaving your ankle in some serious pain and the victim wondering why i didnt get a e-start lol

+1 gottagetacheaperhobby fine if not jumping, regularly inspect the upper frame near the headstem for cracks

yeah as mentioned, the frames are not the best
i built up one a while ago from a heap of parts too, an old Orion.
i just about modified the whole frame, adding gussets etc to help strengthen it, then i customised (raised/lengthened) it to suit me better as well.
there is a link to my Orion build thread in my signature below.
and another thread from Timeeh, his sisters' bike-

and have a look at this thread from one of our ex-members, i posted some pics of where they crack etc, look at post number #46

this is what can happen if you start jumping it

Thanx a lot guys for the replies my67xr I will try and figure out how to do what you mentioned above. As I said it's my first bike and I'm not the best at mechanical things haha.
And for jumping the bike I think it will be a long time until I attempt jumps.
Only bought this to start and learn how to ride then will upgrade to a dhz 140cc outlaw or something.
I will buy that spray for the air filter today and do some work on the bike tomorrow.
Yeh it only starts when I have the choke on even when I run the bike for a while as soon as I switch the lever up the bike dies. It really sucks not knowing how these things work. Would pay for a little lesson on the mechanical side of things. Any one keen to show me some stuff, case of beer and money on offer ! :)
