theres not enough thread to screw it on and make it hold
its an agb21 does anyone know if this actually holds the folks or is just there for looks??
and if it does hold everything, i'm having trouble exposing the thread anymore to screw the farker on any sugestions??

this nut is important if there isnt enough thread try loosining the bolts on the top fork clamp then with a hammer tap the top fork clamp down it should go down more an expose more thread then tighten every think back up

Why you have your forks apart you should grease your headset bearings.

1. Undo your handle bar and hang it to the side.
2. Undo the brake caliper and remove from the fork.
3. Undo the top tripple clamp and take it off, it may need a bump with something soft to get it to move.
4. Slide the forks out the bottom of the headset.
5. Put some grease on the bearings and put it all back together.
6. Get some medium strength loctite to put on the bolts and put the thing back together.

This should sort it. It I have left anything out please correct me.

Whatever you do do not go riding until you have it sorted. The image above shows how much grease the Chineese put on my bike the tight barstards.

yeah cass mine had the same amount (the cheap bastards lol)
i just packed the shit out of them with grease

My atomik AGB-29 was chocka's full of grease i actually took a bit out lol, anyway yeh jesus mate! for the head bolt to fall off your headset must be loose as a city hooker! you should of picked up on it alot earlyer

loosen the top and bottom tripple clamps and this will give you a little more play to get this top nut back on. this nut is not by any means a cosmetic thing. just imagine riding down the road at 70 clicks and having your front forks, handlebars, wheel, the whole lot just fall away hahaha. this COULD be what happens to you IF you dont get this nut back on nice and tight.

generally the chinese space the trpple clamps widely as this gives better grip to the forks and a more solid performance but also they attach the headstem nut first, then sort out tripple clamp spacing and then tighten the head stem nut. if you loosen your tripple clamps off all of a sudden you should have a few more mm of not a few more cm's to play with. but i would take cass38a's advise to repack the grease, it cant hurt to just give those seals a little bit of a clean up anyway.

hope this helps you out mate, let us know how you go with it all.

Cheers, Tony.

cheers fellas, i'lll probably get onto it today, and let ya know how i go with it,
although i think that was the only nut i didnt check when i put it together,

ok so i finally fixed it,
well saturday i took it apart and found no grease in teh bottom bearing to my surprise :|, minimal grease in the top bearing, and that i couldnt fix it coz it was stuffed,
...........so i put it back together, the nut still wouldnt fit,

i email atomik with my problem even sent a few photos.....no reply to my astonishment.... :|

today i got a package from atomik with a brand new top nut!!!............... which of course did f@$k all coz it was the same as the one already not on the bike........

FIX: noticed a taper on the thread of the top nut so i ground down the nut about 1mm, put some locktite on it and it pulled tight first go

left one after i ground it down on a bench grinder,
and right original nut with taper on thread

ps. sorry this was a massive reply, and you're probably bored by now

just get a new set of forks for cheap on ebay, if you can't fix it or if they don't give you a new set

Hey all, ive had the same thing happen to me, but i have lost my nut. Where do i get a replacement nut from? Anyone know what size it is? What the thread is?? BTW im a super n00b to dirt bikes.

I will also be greasing mine up now that i cant ride it without that nut.
