i have been thinking about it for a while and have been wondering is there any difference in performance between usd and traditional style forks? if not why do they use usd now then?
usd's look better but correct me if im wrong most of the time traditional style forks look like they have more travel so im not sure, i think it has somthing to do with the wheel moving up into the usd fork and stops the bike from bouncing down as much when you go over rocks, ruts ect i think.
USD forks have lower unsprung weight which means the wheel spends more time on the ground rather than being held in the air by inertia after hitting surface irregularitys
its also got something to do with the deflection angles when a bump sends the fork leg upwards, and usd deals with it better, trad. forks can still be great though check out the bbr klx forks they look smick and really strong.
Personally I like usd forks but u can get conventional forks that are just as good as usd. Suzuki changed back to conventional forks on there 1999-2002? RM range and they were good forks, but now they changed back to usd so I guess they wernt as well liked as the usd. I also agree that usd forks look better.
