Can it be be done without the bottle melting? (it will only be for less than a day) Also where might a get a washer to fit the oil bottle that wont get eaten by the fuel?

The story is that I need to carry and extra litre (maybe 2) of petrol in the back seat of the bike (which can just fit 2 1ltr oil bottles nicely). Yes i realise "legally" i am not allowed to fill them up from the bowser but i can get around this.

It should be fine timmy, I've had fuel in chinese containers for days before and it hasn't eaten through the plastic, As for a washer you'll want a big cork one like out of a mower fuel cap rubber should also work.

Bunning's would sell something,
a cork anti slip pad for a table leg, a cork floor tile (you could make hundreds, and spares for your bike fuel cap.....

Good idea on the gasket paper (i had some of that...) Oh well i ended up at bunnings looking for cork but thought id look through the petrol tins first, and it turns out they sell a 1ltr petrol mixing bottle :) pretty much the exact size of a 1ltr oil bottle WOOT all set now, cheers again fellas. And look out tassie, here i come ;)

^Meh, thats how i start every day....Dont you? :p No more trip to tassie now, spat the bike doen the highway yesterday about 2hrs out of melbourne... ****in bag and gear rack came loose from the housing and jammed between the rear wheel and back of the bike causing a complete lockup while sitting on 120... made for an awesome smoke show, massive black line down the road and finished with a highside... Oh well tassie will have to wait for another day :(

Ahhh that sucks Timeeh! Lucky you were able to hang on to it! I'd say a save like that deserves rep points! <<<

Maybe it was the universe telling you not to travel with a fuel bomb under your arse! ;) next time eh!

Damn soz mate, i missed the last post of yours. Lucky you held onto it for long enough to wipe some speed off before going over the top. How did you pull up and the bike didnt sustain to much damage, that can be fixed just glad you can talk about it and not holed up in a hospital with lines and other stuff attached to you.:grinning-smiley-003
