Am still comtemplating what colour and stuff to paint my ZX9, i could run with the standard colour scheme but i love BLACK, however i really don't want to paint the tank as it is in perfect condition and really seems to be a waste. So i am thinking i might vinyl wrap it, which in theory means i could always tear it off in the future, if i decide to go back to original. Anbody tried vinyl wrapping, as it looks rather straight foward and vinyl does not seem to expensive in a flat colour.

Yeah do it everyday mate, it depends on how complex the con curves are and what vinyl your using. Don't get cheap vinyl as it will cause you more problems then its worth. Use Avery conformable vinyl and apply it dry. Throw up a picture of the tank and vinyl your looking at and ill tell you straight wether or not its worth it.

My mate has sn old honda vinyl wrapped flat black and no one can tell its not painted, but he got a guy he know who does it for a living to do it, onlly reason he wrapped it was because it has pristine original paint and decals from the late 60s and he didnt want to ruin them. Plus if you need a quick color change (ie cops looking for a flat black bike doing monos up and down the main drag) then 20 mins and voila, totally different bike

i would deff get someone to do it that has all the right tools & knows how to do it.. others wise it will look junk

I would never use it for such a thing ;) Cheers for the input boys, this is a pic of the bike and tank

Either in a matte or gloss, just wating on some pics to come back so i get an idea of what it'll look like.

Here are a few mock ups, the first being the o.g. paintwork

For me the all black with the green rims is the winner so far.

i nearly brought a ZX-6 like this that had been flipped... wish i did :(

I brought this one of a bloke who highsided it, so i picked it up for a steal with not a single mark on the frame except a slight graze on the rear left pillion rail, and only 16,000 on the clock. Replaced the tryes and gave her new fluids, filters, and plugs and it runs like a dream. Could of left the tyres but they were 13yr's old judging by the date stamp on them.... May of even been the original tyres LOL

Hey mate its defiantly possible that tank doesn't look to hard, but in honesty that vinyl looks like absolute crap. Look for Avery conformable vinyl and stick it on dry, I just use my hands and thumb to scrape it out. Try graphic art mart they are our supplier, they are on the net ir just ring them and talk about what the application is for, from memory they will do public business to your door. Although postage is a killer with them its $25. But your best bet would be to get someone to do it as its not the easiest thing to do with no experience, if you choose to do it I could help you out as much as possible with advise but at the end of the day it all comes down to finishing it off like trimming it up. You would need prepsol, pointed stencil knife and heat gun. Some sign writers would charge a fortune so shop around and don't rule out paint to be the cheaper option you would still be looking at maybe $100 to get a decent bloke to do it. I got a local panel beater to spray my whole van satin black for $250, I did all the prep and its still schmick after about 5 years.

I'll be painting the thing myself (the fairings are fecked anyway) iv'e already bogged em and sanded em back. Cheers for the offer mate, i'll let you know how i go. I just ordered some green anodised levers and green/black grips to match the wheels, so i'm thinking it should look resonalbe all black with some kwaka green accents in places.

Avery 700 is medium quality stuff, but still needs water application it's not really conformable and the perforated vinyls been fazed out for years mate so its really old stock.
I'm on tapatalk at the moment so can't link you to what I'm talking about. Defiantly have a look at graphic art marts website, go to sign supplies and vinyl section. It will just be a waste to get cheap stuff.

Wrapping is the go, years ago did some BMW's in "suede" in Singapore and have noticed you can even get your helmet wrapped these days. But if you suck at putting graphics on your bike, best to get an expert to do it. Now we know where 8r3ndo's talents lye, guess we are sending allll our stuff to him!!!

I do like the green tim :)
maybe just paint black lines in to cover all the spots working on

I think i may have just found another answer.... A leather tank bag, just saw one on a GSXR tonight and it looks the goods and covers the whole tank, now i just gotta find one that fits my bike. Cheers for all the help though and if i can't find one to fit i'll get it wrapped. And Shearer, yea i do like the green, but i have this thing about black bikes, and i reckon the all black with green accents should look the goods :)

i reckon orange or deep red- deeper blue candy almost like would look sexy (rims that is)

ive got lots of mates up here that have vinyl wraps on their boats. look awesome!!!
