CDI stands for capacitor discharge ignition ...... the hi performance CDI boxes are supposed to remove rev limiters (but will only be noticeable IF the stocker IS rev limited) and they SHOULD also remap or "alter" the advance curve rate over the stock ignition curve .......
To TRULY know if they do anything ....... you'd need to check the advance rates of both the stock CDI and the performance CDI with a timing light , degree wheel , and tachometer ........
Ultimately though , an engine can only rev as high as the breathing (cam timing and duration , carb , inlet manifold , exhaust and head port sizes) , valve springs and strength of its internal components will allow it to .....
