I'm new to the bike scene and bought a 125cc Lifan Thumpstar off Ebay, as i had not much cash but really wanted a bike. Its an awesome little bike to get started with and get use to riding, but after riding my mates 150cc full race bike i realised i want more power out of mine. His bike just wants to throw you off in the first 3 gears, i'm not looking for that kind of power, but i am looking to upgrade so my bike has more balls :p :p. I also rode another mates 125cc Terra Moto Thumpstar and loved it, it was perfect for the power that i wanted. So now i'm confused.

What do you guys suggest doing?

1. Stepping up to a Lifan 140cc Slightly modded motor.

2. Going all out on the 125cc Motor i got.

So Far my bike has got new plastics with famous sticker kit to suit, and a large exhaust on it.

What do i do?

get a 140 and slightly mod it....it all depends on how much you wanna spend possibilities are endless bro

liek roost said... depends on ur budget...

i have pretty much modded most of my 138cc lifan and i get to test ride it this weekend.. so im looking forward to the power i get outta it.. i was already keep up with my mates DHZ140 so im hoping that the little more work i have done will put me just in front of him this weekend..

but yeah its all abotu the dollars mate

what kind of price am i looking at to upgrade to the 140cc and maybe go a bigger carby and a few other mods. What kind of price have you guys paid to do this? any help is appreciated.

Hye im looking at doing a simalar thing.
ATM i have a 125 zongshen motor, and i want more, so im looking at a 140 or 150...

But not sure if the engine mounts are the same... with my current bike setup, (because its a zongshen) and the new one will be a lifan or something allong those lines.

any help would be great!!

just browse ebay and you can find some pretty good carbys for decent prices....just a simple drive train change can give you more pick up down low but less top end or you can have less pick up and a higher top end just by changing sprockets....easiest way to do things is bit by bit

Yeh thats what ive been doing at the moment. i changed sprocket to a 37T Sprocket already and it made so much difference! Ive been down to DHZ Mini Moto @ Villawood and spoke to Casey down there and im looking at doing a 30mm Mikuni Carburetor Kit and getting a high comp piston put in. This is all new to me so im still looking into it. Ive been looking into going to a bigger bore and stroke on the motor. Is that much power increase aswell? Thanks for all the help

I just put a 140cc Lifan big bore motor with a 25mm mikuni carby in my Thumpster Expert Pro to replace the shot 125cc motor, and I tell ya what mate, it made a whopping difference! The extra power was immediately noticeable. From start to finish it cost me $350 that included buying the engine, shipping, carby, and a few other bits n pieces. I sourced everything off ebay. I just sat and waited for cheap things to pop up then when something cheap was about to go I would grab it. I saw the 140cc Lifan engines go for anywhere between $280 - $350 (not including shipping) so bargains can be found you just have to be patient.

Thats awesome! i have been watching some 140cc Lifan motors on Ebay and your right there around $280-350. I was expecting so much more money to get the upgrades i want but so far am very happy with what im hearing. Ill have to keep my eye out for some more upgrades.
