Hi guys.
I went riding yesterday and my bike wouldn't accelerate properly...mainly in 2nd gear. Normally, i would pull the clutch in and give it some revs the let it out and it'd spin like crazy....now theres no power in the acceleration. It feels like the clutch is still in halfway. Ive been told that it is clutch drag and i need to replace the plates..i have a 2004 genuine thumpstar and need to know what plates to get.
If anyone can help me that'd be good...or if i dont need new plates...maybe just a clean out and oil. the clutch cable links up to a lever on the outside of the clutch casing...you probably already know that but bigger bikes dont.
Thanks

It doesn't go by bike for your clutch.

What engine you have in the bike? Don't know it, there should be an engine number there somewhere.

DHZ they should have what your asking for.

is it a start in any gear engine or start in neutral?

if its a start in neutral you can start by checking the clutch adjustment behind the removable cover on the clutch cover...
there is an adjustable screw with a 10mm nut in there...
i usually disconnect the clutch cable and adjust that screw so there is about 3mm play.
also while the cable is off i check to see that the cable can travel freely.. if so then put the cable back on and adjust the lever so it has about 5mm play.

give it an oil change and test the clutch.

if its still slipping then yeah DHZ for parts DHZ Mini Moto - Home

... i thought 04 Thumpstars were all autos... first models that came out?? 3 spd all up autos??
sorry, random query...
but yeah, i'd be looking at changing your oil, pulling the clutch basket out first, and inspect the plates for abnormal wear...

Umm....it starts fine in neutral but when you put it in gear and let the clutch out to accelerate..it feels like it's slippin and it has very little power....this is mainly in 2nd gear but....1st gear is still alright, the front pops up in 1st but not in 2nd...it always used to have heaps of power in 2nd gear. Once you get going it is fine except when you go up hills....not as much power....One of the plates might be worn...
Thanks for the info....DHZ-ill check it out

Ok then....um...i'll have to have a look at the engine number but do you just tell DHZ or whatever what it is? Thanks

does your engine have the clutch on the front of the engine or the top...thats what you will need to him and the engine number

and why do you take of in second gear...no wonder your clutch is dead

i dont get it...you say its slippin, yet you have no power...do you mean the engine revs its tits off but the power isnt being TRANSFERRED, or do you mean its just got no power now? and doesnt want to rev at all? in which case it isnt the clutch...:p

and yes, telling the dealer(DHZ) engine numbers (like IP55FMI) is really handy for getting the correct parts for the engine....

It sounds like he's got glazed plates ... The clutch is most likely on the crank ... Thumpstars had either a non start in gear Jialing 110 (clutch on crank) ... or a start in gear Jialing 125 (clutch on tranny mainshaft) ...

If after checking and doing what Sean01 has stated it doesn't improve ... He might be better off just buying a complete new clutch ...

In that case ... Remove it and match it to a close up pic of the clutch you are going to buy to avoid ending up with the wrong part ... Sometimes even dealers can send you the WRONG parts ...
