I'm about to fit a high lift cam to one of my motors and port the head while I'm at it, but I need to know of where I can buy some wider coil spaced valve springs in Australia (prefer online).

From what I've read you can run into an issue with coil bind when using the standard springs with a high lift cam??

Anyone who's done this care to comment? Mack.....Roost.....etc...

Cheers

yep you certainly do try dave from cdj industries ,he should have them in stock ,or the bloke who supplies you the cam should have access to these things .

Depends which cam you are going to use. Or basically the lift of the cam, if you are getting one ground yourself. You only need them on the really big cams.

Thanks guys.

Might throw the cam in the head first and turn it by hand to make sure the coils don't bottom out before I buy some newies then.

Cheers.

What cam are you using and where'd it come from?

Mack, as much as I hate to admit it...... ebay.

Just really playing at the moment with a budget build and seeing what I can do for minimum bucks before I start to do a `proper' build.

I purchased the cam from `vina performance' on USA ebay and it was shipped out of vietnam. Not sure of the grind / lift / duration, or if its similar to a G1, G2, Z40 etc... It was sold as a `performance hi lift cam' (very broad term I know) and I thought that for the sake of 50 bucks id be willing to have a play.

Basically it go's like this..... These engines are sooooo cheap to begin with that I'm prepared to have a bit of a play with one and if it lunches itself then big deal. The first thing that I'm toying with at the moment is a 125 Ducar and I've also got a 125 Lifan with all up trans to play with after that. After that I'll buy either a Lifan 120/138 or a GPX and do things the right way with that one.

For the price that you can buy pistons, offset crankpins and the like from Akunar, it really makes the cam one of the most expensive parts of a good build!

yep i have seen this cam run with stock springs, so it should be fine as long as you are not running inner rotor kit as the stock springs dont really like to rev that fast even then this only happens sometimes, i'm running a CDJ industries cam and inner rotor and lightened oil slinger and alot of other mods with stock valve springs and have not had a problem, but is is not a huge aggressive cam just has better mid to top range but goes great

Fantastic! Great to hear that someone has actually seen this cam before in operation. Also glad to hear that it makes a performance difference and is'nt just a stock grind that I blindly paid too much for:rolleyes:

Going to rip of the head in a week or so and have a play from there with some mild porting and the cam. Should be interesting to see how it all ends up. Had a straight line run against a mates new DHZ 138 (127??) yesterday and got blown into the weeds........ I gotta make up some of that lost ground:D
