hey guys got an Atomik 160 about three weeks ago ran fine but i just replaced the air filter with an aftermarket type and the thing has started blowing smoke not while idle but if i give it a rev and let go of the throttle smoke is seen ?
smells to me like oil but i started it up yesterday and it ran and sounded fine !

me thinking it was maybe the air/fuel mix played with that but now it back firing like crazy to the point theres flames coming out the exhaust ?

so i think its the rings coz i rubbed my finger in the the exhaust pipe and its black and abit greasy and its smells like fuel ....
anyway to confirm its the rings or maybe something else ?

could someone please help i new to these and dont wanna break it ?
cheers lenny

mate did it start playing up as soon as you bolted on the new filter?
if so, take the filter off, and see if it runs normally again...
Is your filter oiled? if it is, and the bike is smoking now, then clean the air filter, and put more oil on it, just not as much... too much oil effectively richens out your jetting, and can make it blow smoke.... also makes it run like a pig..
with your air/fuel mix screw, screw it all the way in, then turn it 1.5 to 2 turns out... that *should* be in the ballpark...

i think your exhaust flange bolts might be loose. that will make the bike run lean and backfire. also check for a leaky manifold.

yea i took the filter off and ran it for about ten minutes but till smoking after i release the throttle
no smoke when on throttle..
i rubbed my finger on the exhaust tip and it was black and abit greasy it smelled like fuel for some reason it that helps
my exhaust flange was loose but i tightened it up now.
just trying to figure out this smoking problem !

my atomik 160 had no valve clearance from brand new so you need to check that asap
