Dirtmax Avenger 150cc, 16HP Race engine

For off road use (neglecting motard here), whether and engine pumps out a peak of 12HP, 14HP or 16HP. I think peak power ratings (real or not) are of very limited value. Sure you need a certain amount of HP, but high peak HP and nothing below that is just slow. What is both fast and FUN for off...

    Lifan 150 diffs and pics

Thanks to Ken and Linda at MSO I have been able to purchase a new Lifan 150 for my bike which is ready to ride - Saturday. Some pics of it below. The most obvious differences are the right side cover (oil filter so no slinger), and the alum cylinder. Some key things noticed about the stock...

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

Nice photo of a bottom out on landing. Reminds me that good suspension tuning will go a long way toward avoiding harsh peg and case loadings. Hey avenger_125, it's your thread. Sorry I cannot help re suppliers of cogs. Just keep phoning around. btw: a couple of days agao, I saw a new 140 sell...

    2stroke muffles on a 4stroke engine?

No idea sorry. There is sound - which you could maybe test via hold it on somehow. Then there is the packing life. Also the 2-strokes oil up the mufflers quick so keep that in mind if/when it gets real loud.

    2stroke muffles on a 4stroke engine?

The muffler off a 250cc 2 stroker MXer could be alright. They usually have core tubes of size around 25 to 28mm. It'll probably sound a lot quieter than the typical china pitbike muffler. Or you could get one off a 200+ cc 2 stroke enduro bike and just cut down it's length until you get the...

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

Hey, In line with these concepts, another option on a mini subjected to hard peg loadings could be to put some tough rubber bushes under the heads of the bolts which hold the peg bar up thru the frame to the engine. That is of course after making sure the engine is first sitting down on the...

    whats faster

I had a 125 with a great powerband. So good I kept it. Just the band. Still got it in a jar. Sorry, bad humor but could not resist. The whole powerband terminology thing is funny. I know people think of it as a top end hit when a 2-stroke is "on the pipe". IMO every engine has a powerband of...

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

As in "peg springs". I like it! Some kind of metal tube for the peg bar, which can flex but has a high yield stress and doesn't stay bent. The right grade stainless tube might be good (I know some SS grades are much more springy than others, and easy to find a welder too), or maybe thin CroMo...

All a bit too much at times for the "scooter" engines. :)

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

I read ya re the static stress in the case due to incorrect mounting. I'll be careful when I install the next or repaired engine. The crack firstly goes in toward the bottom of that cavity under that shifter gizmo (about 12mm), then turns down/rearward and runs toward the peg mounts, but only...

    Rebuilding a KX125

I used to run Castrol-R synthetic in my KX 2 strokes, and I'd pull pistons out after 50 hrs and they (piston+rings) were always within measurement specs, but i'd replace it anyway since they were so cheap. The low wear amazed me since then engine (like any 125) was at 7 to 11000 rpm practically...

140cc bad rattle in the head ??

Interesting. So what were your valve clearances before you reset them? My fun guess is your valves were way tight, and at some stage when they got hot they weren't sealing and that sound squeal you heard was the valve singing as the air pushed passed it. Then the rattle might have been the...

    oil for lifan 140?

75% Shell Rimula-X 15w40 diesel oil. AUD61 for 10L. 25% Shell VSX synthetic. About AUD50 for 4L. That's the mix I run in my KX450F. Which after 65hrs runs perfect in every way. You could run a lot less VSX in your mini. That's in there just for cold starts, and the mini heads get oil to them...

    spark plug for daytona 125??

CR7HSA are pretty cheap. Price wise handy to buy a bunch of them too if you want to fiddle with jetting. I fouled about 3 or 4 when I was rooting around with jetting. New one in and away you go (until you kill it), and you can try to revive the fouled ones later when you have time. Or put them...

    whats faster

Weird comparison any way you look at it. Words like "faster" and "win" depends totally on how you race the two bikes. You can eliminate rider skill and body weight just by using a stop watch and getting each rider to ride each bike. I guess most people here mean a drag race on a sealed surface...

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

Thanks Cactus. I'm not fussed about the failure. No better way to learn really. Interesting the crack is at the thinnest part of the casting around any of the high loaded bearings. The crack probably happened a while ago. Before my head mods. Probably on a day (way back) when I let someone...

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

See pics below. My starter gears are a little burred over. My case is indeed split. Just under the bearing which supports the clutch shaft. Questions Cactus: 1. How does a kick back crack the case on the clutch shaft? I am guessing the load could mean anything could brake around any bearing. 2...

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

Yeah I see, possibly more to it than missing teeth. Ques: Right side engine cover off and I'd see the region where the inner metal casting could be cracked? Good web links thanks.

    Lifan 140 with chewing gears

Hmm, a good write up. Thanks. Good point re Honda origin of the starter gear parts versus the Chinese stroke increase. I shall try that kill switch holding trick! I also intend to get new starter gears very soon. Actually, it's a must-do before my next ride. An anti-kick-back mechanism. As...
