I think you are talking about the recoil starter return spring. Yes it is fixable if you have the time patiance and a fair idea of what you are doing. They are reasonabley cheap off Ebay so you have nothing to lose trying to fix it

pitty/CRF engines arnt a true centrifical clutch but more of a slipper clutch with mechenical disengaugment on shifting by means of a cam plate and lever asembly atached to the back of the shiter shaft. So the fact that you can push start the bikes actually shows that they are working well

Yes your oil cooler will get as hot as the engine gets. Its job is to shed heat from the oil to the air to try and cool your engine

Check all your conections and earths. Run a multi meter over everything to check continuity and stick a test light on the low tension (pulse) wire of the coil to see if its getting power

Ive seen alot of problems with 1835 kits on VWs come to think of it, cant see this being much different if they are running the same cases. Sure they would have good torque but i would be a bit worryed bout reving them to hard for to long
