if ya trying to clean the filter get an ice cream container and put some petrol in it and just rinse it in there but make sure ya put the filter oil back on when ya done

dont wash your filter in petrol if it is a chinese filter. it will destroy the filter. just use soapy water. if it is a quality filter use any cleaning fluid but rinse it out well and re oil when dry.

yeah for china filters i use laundry powder in warm water, disolve it and then soak the filter in it, scrub it with your hand, rinse in warm water and dry it out, a compressor is best. then re oil it and good to go

You could try metho ? but deffently dont use petrol it will eat the glue and fall apart :/ Warm water and washing up liquid.

yea i just use detergant and warm water put in the sun to dry out real good

Get 3 buckets 2 with soapy water and 1 with Turps , use the Turps to get the oil out of the filter then with the first soapy water use it to get the Turps out because it dissolves the glue , then use the 3rd bucket to rince again .hang it ou to dry then re oil . Also if you go to woolys and buy a packet of stockings and they work like filter skins .

O and 1 other thing petrol is ok to use on mini bike filters becaus they arnt held togeather buy glue like the full size mx bike filters

i thought they had glue around the base ? because i had one that fell apart there cos it got petrol spilt on it .

most are.. but also the petrol kills the foam not just the glue...

kero is best to use or diesel then hot soapy water then air dry or blow dry

explains why mine ripped off when i ripped it i just used petrol and i dont have airfilteroil so just chucked some 2 stroke engine oil on there probably wasn't the best for the foam lol

Exactly what i do. No harsh chemicals (Petrol/Turps) and comes up a treat everytime.

I don't even use filter oil , never have and it runs fine, just wash it in petrol and soapy water, let it dry then I'm good to go

of coarse it will run fine, but you obviously don't know what the filter oil is for.

its to stop the finer particles of dirt that the foam cant catch which slowly destroys inlet valve guides, valve stems, rings, pistons and bores...

If you are wanting to look after your entire bike, start by looking after the air filter. It is almost a lifeline to your bike. Getting dirt or not enough air from a clogged up un-oiled filter can seriously damage an engine. From my experience with my first filter which was this: 42mm Dual Stage Uni Air Filter. Don't use hot water! Hot water will melt the glue that holds the inner layer foam to the plastic that slides on to the carb which will obviously make the filter fall apart, use barely warm water if you need water which you shouldn't?? <<< this happened to my first filter :/ . Petrol will do the same to the glue as hot water does, petrol also swells up the foam sells making it filter out the dirt not as well. This is how you should clean a filter. . . Use a degreaser (you can use dish washing liquid) but proper air filter cleaner is the best not sure if Turps or Kerosene will wreck the foam or possibly even the glue. But anyway, spray (or pour and rub in) a generous amount of air filter cleaner on and let it soak for 5 minutes then wash it off with water. Let it completely dry (can use a hair dryer or best is an air compressor. Once dry, re-oil your filter with not too much oil as it can then drip all over you bike when you put the filter back on (also a personal experience, nothing major though) just make sure to wipe any excess oil off the filter. Hope this helps :)
