If you are wanting to look after your entire bike, start by looking after the air filter. It is almost a lifeline to your bike. Getting dirt or not enough air from a clogged up un-oiled filter can seriously damage an engine. From my experience with my first filter which was this: 42mm Dual Stage Uni Air Filter. Don't use hot water! Hot water will melt the glue that holds the inner layer foam to the plastic that slides on to the carb which will obviously make the filter fall apart, use barely warm water if you need water which you shouldn't?? <<< this happened to my first filter :/ . Petrol will do the same to the glue as hot water does, petrol also swells up the foam sells making it filter out the dirt not as well. This is how you should clean a filter. . . Use a degreaser (you can use dish washing liquid) but proper air filter cleaner is the best not sure if Turps or Kerosene will wreck the foam or possibly even the glue. But anyway, spray (or pour and rub in) a generous amount of air filter cleaner on and let it soak for 5 minutes then wash it off with water. Let it completely dry (can use a hair dryer or best is an air compressor. Once dry, re-oil your filter with not too much oil as it can then drip all over you bike when you put the filter back on (also a personal experience, nothing major though) just make sure to wipe any excess oil off the filter. Hope this helps
Prob would have helped....Back in January lol
