Evening all.
4 questions for you! Before we get started let me just stress that this is a 4 year old motox 125 that's only just starting to fail me. I refuse to let it die!

1. Has anyone replaced the rear shock on an atomik motox 125 with anything other than the stock. The atomik site says: 1000 lbs 255mm Nitrogen Charged Gas Shock with Adjustable Preload. So my question is....does it have to be close to 255mm? Closest I can find at DHZ is 280mm. Even the ebay ones seem to start at ~290mm. Not really wanting to guess and wind up leaning forwards.

2. Has anyone replaced the bleed seals on the forks of this (or similar) bike? One of mine has sprung a nasty leak and im really not that keen on getting new ones because I've spent ages messing around with oil weights to toughen them up. I have some gasket silicone but i'm thinking that might not be tough enough. Alternative is to try and find some rubber o rings to replace the one thats buggered. Do they sell bags of assorted sizes anywhere?

3. Chain - I'm getting some contradictory info from other threads. Atomik site says its a #428 but threads here say its "probably" a #420. Anyone know for sure? There doesnt seem to be any stamps on it other than "KMC". Also how many links would be appropriate? Am I going to need to take links out or is it just going to fit?

4. Exhaust - The strip of rubber padding between the muffler and the muffler mounting bracket thing disappeared on me mid ride allowing the whole muffler to shoot off. I still have the muffler and the bracket but its obviously quite loose without the 2mm padding around it. Thoughts on what I might be able to replace it with? Needs to be fairly heat resistant i'd say.

Apologies for the essay and thanks for the responses in advance!

260mm fast ace or decent quality shock should be fine..

how big are the seals your talking about.. go to a bearing shop with the original seal and see what your options are..

take a sprocket with you when you buy your new chain, chains usually come in 120 links and you will have to cut it down to suit..

could use an old tube for the exhaust or replace the whole exhaust with one that is better quality and has a better mounting bracket..

The seals were only small. Maybe 8mm diameter on the inside and 12mm on the outside.
If I bought the chain from the atomik spare parts site do you think it would come with the correct amount of links/correct pitch or are they completely untrustworthy?

Best place to buy a fastace 260mm? DHZ doesnt seem to have them and thats where I was planning on picking up other parts including a tyre.

For reference the motox 125cc has a KMC #428 pitch chain - about 104 links worth.

you will never get a chain the correct size in the box... and if ya buying other items from DHZ then get the chain from there too...

for the shock maybe try ebay..

also for the shock, dont trust what atomik say on there site... 50/50 chance of it being correct...
take it out and measure it.. bolt hole to bolt hole

Removed the rear shock and for anyone else(and probably myself when i forget in an hour) the stock shock is 265mm eye to eye.

^^ What Sean said, as for the chain, buy a longer chain and slowly cut it down to size, alot easier to remove links than adding them!

Yeah that was my plan of attack. I was just keen to find out how long the chain was so i didnt go buy one with far too many links.

Fastace Rear Shock Model BS-22AR-270L

Seems to be about the right length. It comes in 250lbs and 550lbs versions. 250 seems a lot softer than other shocks on the market. I weigh about 80kg and ride it fairly hard but cant say I do much in the way of jumping. Which one you reckon?

Put it all together last night. 5 Hours of pain and suffering but here's what I achieved.

Fastace 270mm 550lb - Feels great and the damping adjustment is really nice as well

Carlsbad rear tyre - Looks like I might actually get some traction now instead of fishtailing it everywhere!

KMC #428 chain - In the future i'd get a longer one as it only came with 104 links which means its really stretched on there. Hoping it will loosen up nicely without snapping and taking my leg off. There is no sag in it at all.

Fork - Rooted around in my spares and found the perfect seal. No more leakies!

Exhaust - Wrapped a spare rubber rim inlay thing around the muffler a few times, bent the clamp in to shape so that its nice and tight and then put a F!@# off big bolt on it that'll never let go. The whole things solid as a rock now.

Even threw a new chain roller on there for good measure as the bearings in the old one were beyond dead.

Anyway hope this helps someone else with similar issues in the future. And if anyone reading this in sydney wants to go for a ride drop me a PM. We have 4 or 5 guys that get together now.

hmmm hope you dont weigh much, the shock you used is for an A style swing arm and from memory motox bikes run the other style.

you would need a shock with at least 800lbs spring...

kmc chains arent worth the box they come in (if they come in a box lol) and stretching it on can be a bad way to go... chain too tight will put some severe stress on the gearbox...
be ready to buy a new chain shortly, but hopefully not a new engine lol..

Shocks pretty much identical in design to the one that came off it, although its slightly narrower. Took it out today and it seems to be great. I did tighten it down the spring a few cm's and fiddled with the rebound but all in all im happy with it. Weigh around 80kg.

Chain didnt come in a box! but the KMC that was on it stock lasted well so why not stick with what works. As for the stretching...well its loosened up a bit already. I could always take the locking nuts out of the chain adjusters to give it an extra 5mm.

I care about what chain goes on my CBR600RR but to be honest I cant really see the quality of a chain mattering too much on a 125cc bike. Feel free to educate/tell me off though.

of course the shock design is going to be similar. its the spring rate im talking about... you'll more than likely blow the shock out in no time from bottoming it out too much..

as for the chain, well thats your choice.. im not going to sit here and tell you something that is in every chain thread on the forum...
