Hi people, I just purchased a 07 atomik 250cc quad from a friend for $300 and it has an elect prob... he said it was running fine a week or so ago which i know cos my brother went riding that time...

Now when we go to start the bike it just has a slight "click" noise or no noise at all. The green light still still comes on when the key is on and the headlights etc all work ok. I followed the negative lead to a solid earth, and the positive from battery to a small module type thing on the rhs of the bike, off which runs a lead to the starter and a small wires to somewhere else... On on side of the module I have power and none on the lead to the starter mtr. I have bridged the 2 wires and just hear a click from starter but thats it, is this normal? or can anyone please give me some help as im only familiar with the main jap motorx bikes... I also am 3 year car mechanic so am confident working on it but just need help... Thanks

Usually the click sound would indicate that the battery does not have enough grunt to kick it over.

Have you tested the battery?

sorta yeah that is what it sounds like a flat battery but its reading approx 11.8 on the multimeter

just tried to jump from car and still nothing, and also tried push stratin and sounds like it wants to go but just doesnt

yeah unfortunately it only e-start and nah havent taken off starter yet... tried push start and sounded like it wanted to go, started rumbling (semi running) but cut out straight away... Brought some new terminals etc just now, so will go and tinker and may look at starter until someone else gives another tip... Its damn annoying but i do like a bit of a challenge

yeah all that he cleaned before sale, his pop is an auto elect and i could have waited a week and paid 100 more with it fixed but yeah i was sorta in a hurry and thought it would be quite simple... My mate and his dad said they think there is a short somewhere

11.8 is a bit low. Try the jumper cables to earth and the starter side of the solenoid? Solenoid showed no voltage to the starter, with the start button pushed? That'd tell of a bad solenoid. This job:
