Bike for my daughter

Hi Guys

I'm sure you get sick of the question of which bike to go for, but given that the quality can change as businesses get better (or worse), change hands etc, it's a question that is best answered by those who ride - so here goes.

I'm looking for a bike for my 13yo daughter. She's around 155cm, and is a beginner. My son and I ride larger bikes, so she wants one to cruise with us when we camp etc. It will see some gentle use at Frankston kids mx track, plus the Hastings track. I cant see her jumping though!

Looking for a bike thats easy to start, not aggressive, reliable and solid. I've looked at CRF100's, but dont really want to spend 2500 only to find she's not really into it. I'd also like to get her started on a clutch bike, but maybe Im being overly optimistic.

From looking on here the DHZ 125's seem ok, but I'd like some opinions (constructive that is).

Any thoughts that can assist me?

Your right in saying DHZ 125's are good mate, it would be the perfect starting bike! but there are a few others you can get that will also suit your needs. the Atomik Nitrous is a good bike, it comes in 125cc, 140cc, 150cc and 160cc. they also come in "mid size" and "standard size". the mid size would be good, it would be abit more comfortable to ride . and the nitrouses and take abit of the rough stuff, which will hapen when your girl is learning. some other bikes are assassin, although i havnt had any experience with assassin, but they look well built. plus some of their bikes come with the 14/17 " wheel setup aswell .

Maybe you should get a cheap second hand bike and make it run ok. As you know, when you're learning you crash a bit and not be so nice to the gears and clutch starting out. So why not get a second hand one that you don't really care about so she can fall off and it won't really matter.

Then if she likes it and can ride ok , she will be ready for a bigger bike with a bit more power so then you can get something nice.

The secondhand bike idea is not a bad one, but as it's a xmas present, I don't want to spend more time fixing it that my daughter will riding it.

If I get a new bike, which brands would you suggest I avoid? Also, is a 125 going to be too much for her? How torquey are they?

Brands to avoid? well the bottom end brands are like TDR, and Lei moto and some of atomik's low end bikes. but honestly your daughter will be learning, so it doesnt really matter. and alot of second hand chinese bikes are just unwanted presents or are the result of people losing interest, so they'll usually be in fairly new condition and half the price of getting one new anyway

The pitster pro 110 would be good, semi auto not very big easy to ride.
Pitster pro is a high end china brand and can handle any track if looked after
Think the mx110 is around $1099 or close to that. Seen one in person looks like a good bike.
The pitster pro Lxr is their best model but would be too much for your daughter as they are 150cc 4v- 160ho and 190cc 4v. they are about 2800-3299
As for the dhz125 that would be a good bike as well. 125s aren't very powerful but some are like the Daytona and gpx125s, they are very fast out of the box.

the dhz frame seems very strong for the style of frame it is and if it is running a lifan 125 there is no need to worry about power as they dont have much power stock standard. either the pitster pro or dhz would make a good first bike, just make sure you get rid of the stock chain as they stretch and then can bust your stator up when they fly off

A new one is good but to be honest. when I got my first motor bike ,I got it for a birthday or Christmas.It was a busted up Yamaha 125 and I had to share it with my two brothers,but we all thought it was the best thing ever. We slowly fixed little things and put new stickers and stuff on it and made it a bit better. We had so much fun on it and got a good few years out of it.

It's a fair bit for a new bike and if she's not interested you will soon have a second hand bike, just like the other hundreds of people who don't want theirs any more. so you would lose a lot of value.

Plumbot if you ever see me at frankston track I can get your daughter a ride on a few different bikes, 50's, 88' s etc, to see what she likes. Or go to a ride before you buy day down there most Wednesdays and Saturdays
