So, after a weekend away riding, i decided all the creaks, groans and rust my bike suffers from were due to be looked at.

So, after much thought (and even more XXXX GOLD) i decided to tear it down and build it from the ground up.

started today by pulling it apart and sanding back the frame. i then gave her a good heavy duty prime, which i will go over with white enamel tomorow after work (or maybe tonight)

i will post photos later everyone.

cheers, Gus

try not to use enamel it will only scratch and chip..

try and get your hands on some 2pak or go get it powder coated..

thanks for the tip mate.
im using Kill Rust White Enamel out of a spray can.

so thats likely to chip pretty easily? i didnt think it would be much of an issue, because the frame doesnt see much daylight because of the engine/plastics/guards. however, i am the rookie here hahahaha

what would you recomend as the best paint to use on the frame.

I have spray painted a frame or to , the idea is to put the least amount of paint on as possible , the thicker it is the easier it will chip , and the uglier the chips will look.

They can stay in good condition if your careful , i never got chips from everyday riding , only from assembly and fiddling around with the bike .. accidentally hitting it with spanners etcc

cool cool, thanks for the tip. ill keep the paint thin, hopefully that will do the trick.
ive never seemed to have an issue with chips in the current paint, so ill see how i go.

worst comes to worse, she comes apart again for another spray :D

Ok Everyone, got the Pics now. so here we go!!!

I Must Thank Bulldog93 for giving me a thread to refer to for some things (like the front forks and the throttle)

Heres how she looked this morning (note: When i got the bike it had blue plastics, but half of them were broken off, so i got new red plastics)

More photos to come as i progress everyone.

Thanks, Gus

Nice work Gus Bus.

Those frames look like they have a fair bit of reinforcement .. i want to make another 10" bike around the small Crf style , wondering if a frame like that would be suitable and fairly strong....hmm

killrust is some good ****, I use it for my Pocket bike frames and it hasn't chipped.. just make sure you are careful painting as killrust takes ages to dry and is very runny...

Cheers Wogtaz

ill tell ya what mate, they must be a pretty tuff Frame.

my mate who i bought the bike off weighs in around 90-100kg. hes a tall bugger, and he used to jump the bike a lot, and its still dead straight.

TyD, excellent news. i thought Kill Rust was the go. i work in hardware atm, so i had a fair idea of which way to go.

it has allot of reinforcement in the front, but they tend to snap around the engine mount.
I wanna build a 10"er around one of these frames too, will never happen tho, just a dream hahah

Sweet mate.. Looking good. Nice to know my thread came to some use :D:D Can't wait to see the progress on your bike..

What other upgrades are you going to do?

Sure did mate.

im really just gonna tidy her up, clean everything off, replace just about every nut and bolt in the bike, cause they are all stuffed.

Brakes need fixing, (rears dont work)

get myself some look good bits, new foot pegs, a stand (man id love a kick stand hahaha)

ill do whatever i see has to be done as i re-assemble the beast really.

i would LOVE some yellow anodized rims at some point, but theres some big bucks there.

sould of taken the whole forks and tripple clamps off not just the forks would make it alot easyer

cheers dog.

yeh, brakes i understand, ive come from a car up-bringing, so thats all pretty simple.
and thanks for that link, ill take a gander

Rider456,
i could not for the life of me work it out/cbf. so i did it the way i did it. hahaha
worked all the same :D

Nice mate! Im cleaning up my CRF50 88Lim at the moment as well...but not going as insane as you are :D haha!

Just painted my Pegmount and already started to chip up :( Might take it in tomorrow to get it powdercoated though...best way to go and wouldnt cost much!
