Buying a new bike?

I have a 140xr pit pro between me and my mate, but we need another 1 so we can both ride...
Im not too bad on it now, but have only ridden a few hours all up, but still am abit noobish to the whole thing.

I dont wana spend much at all, because soon i wana buy a honda/yamaha for the big tracks, but just wana learn abit more first.

Is it worth getting a 2nd hand atomik? one that isnt very old or used to much though, or should i just spend another few hundred and get a brand new one for 700?

the pit pro has decent power so would a 125 be alot slower? or basically the up with it...

Yeah i was thinking one like that, its around my price range.

But would it be worth getting a 2nd hand honda/yamaha/suzuki?

I can get a 2 stroke yamaha pw80 for 1400, not sure on how big it is tho, only seen pictures.

Or theres a honda crf80 for 1500, they are a decent size,

or a suzuki ds80, not sure how big they are either..

Im only 5'9 so im not a big guy, only 65kgs.

If those top brand bikes are worth buying over the chinese made, then id rather do that, but is it worth it?

all of them will be miles to small mate

for your height i would go a midsize, like a 150 or so
you will be heaps more comfortable

also you would get completely bored of the power

my sisters bf bought a crf80 and it looked like a nice size...

coz im pretty small aswell, but its really just to learn on for a few months and then im gona buy a big bike, so im not fussed on getting bored or anything..

and id rather get a bike i can resell for a decent amount, as apposed to not being able to sell the chinese made ones. lol.

Im gona get test out some sizes tomorrow anyway, so ill see what they are like..

Buy the japs because they're cheap. You'll also get alot more money back when you up-grade.

Yes. Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawa they're jap made.

They're also a decent size from what I can rember. Couple of years since I've ridden one.

Yeah sweet as, as for the peewee80 yamaha, someone told me once that the 2strokes are faster then the 4strokes, so would it make the 80 more like 125 speed or so? or would it still be a slug.

It being an 80 I wouldn't think it'll be any faster then a 4-stroke 80.

When you get into 2t V 4t on 125s and 250s then there is a difference.

Have a look at:
TTR 125. 4 stroke, reliable bike.
XR80. 4 stroke, reliable

Those two bikes are great learners bike and you can pick them up for couple of thousand and the XR80 for $1500ish?

They are 2002 models though, still not bad tho.

I get what you mean with the 2v4 strokes though.

See if you can test ride or at least inspect it.

If your choosing between those 3, get the crf80. While its true tha 2 stroke make more power, the ds80 and pw80 are designed for kids and dont really have powerband like a 80cc mxer(yz80,rm80,cr80,kx80,etc.). And the crf80 is a fun playbike, i got one for my missus years ago(99 xr80 actually) and i wont get rid of it because its so much fun in a small backyard chasing z50's. And the crf80 will be easier to sell and hold its value better than the other 2. However if you plan to be jumping it forget it, either get a quality pitty or buy an 80cc/85cc mxer.

Dont really know how to jump yet, ive only ever been on the small frankston track, and that jump isnt really anything..
I wouldnt be jumping very big with it in time either, because im just gona get a big bike when i get decent at riding..

I can also get a 2001 yz 80 for 1500 aswell, so what would be better, the honda or yamaha? mostly about reliability..

Is there a big difference between the honda crf80 and the xr80? when it comes to cost and reliability?

same bike essentially, just a change of name and plastics to make it look more current. The xr/crf80 is just one of those bikes that hasnt needed refinement/improvement(partly as its not a racebike, more a playbike). There are only a few differences in all models from the first model in 79(replacement for the xr75). In 85 it went from dual shock to monoshock, in 92 it went from points ignition to cdi, in 01 it changed its name to the crf80, any other changes were just plastics, colours and other cosmetics. All models are reliable as hell and parts are at every wrecker. Great bike to learn on, but i'd be tempted to get the yz80 as it'll take you longer to get bored of. If you plan on going to the track regularily the crf80 will hit it limits, where the power, suspension and brakes on the yz80 will be more than up to the task.

i used to have a yz85, but i must warn you that the clutch is differant to use then the 4 strokes
just be aware of that but a hell more power

If it is a cr80 and not a crf80, then get that or the yz. The pw80 and ds80 though are kids toys, and not in a good way like a crf50 is
