Cam Shaft Cover

Last night I decided to fire up my new Atomik MotoX for the 1st time after spending 2 days making sure it was perfect and ready to ride by tightening all the bolts changing the oil and adjusting the chain.

Anyway to get to the part that is causing me grief is when I took for a ride like 5 minutes into it I notice it spewing oil everywhere so I turn the thing off and look at the motor to see that the cam shaft cover is completely missing.

Turns out the bolt holding it in had sheered leaving some of it still in the cover it’s self now that wasn’t a prob cause I just used an easy out and got it out but I will need a new bolt. I did let the guy know and he’s sending a replacement but I just don’t just the stuff he will give me is gonna be any better so does anyone know when I could find that type of bolt.

I have photos but they are all on my computer at home and unfortunately I am writing this from work so I won’t be able to get photos up here till later.

But to describe the bolt it’s about 10cm long with no thread most of the way down the cm or 2 does have thread and it’s about 4-5mm thick.

So if anyone knows what I mean and knows where I could find one I would appreciate that I am gonna be trying the auto shops and stuff tomorrow morning cause I was this thing going for the weekend.

if you lived in melbourne i could give you a few shop names that sell all types of nuts n bolts but since you dont try an look for a place that specialize in just sellings bolts n nuts they will have what you need for sure

go for a stainless steal one cause you dont really need a high tensile to hold the cam cover on

hardware store might hae something close, but chances are youll have to cut the threaded end shorter to make it a perfect fit, than clean the cut thread up before screwing it into the camcover, so you dont stuff the covers thread,

we have a Bearing shop here, and they have every size possible.

I doubt you'll find a specialised bolt like that. You may also need it to have a plain shaft for its entire length the same as the original so it wont disturb the oil flow into the cam.

Yea i was planning on it. The closest thing to the original that i can get.

You really should be fine with the replacement that is on its way. Just don't overtighten it. I have found the bolts in these engines perfectly sufficient, but they will not withstand overtightening, and are designed this way to save the part not themselves. Most engine bolts need no more than 6-8 lbs on them, including the head bolts.
