Hey guys I'm trying to figure out this kickstart problem on a chinese bike i got from a friend for 50 bucks. From what I've read it seems that the tab on the inside is not catching to disengage the kickstart and it constantly clicks when the motors running. I have torn the motor apart twice in the last week and changed all the gaskets, piston rings etc. and to make sure all the gears were ok because first gear was not working but ill worry about that after i can get this clicking to go away. Is there anyway to get the tab aligned without cracking the gearbox open?? i have tried to spin it back and forth with just the cover off and the spring off the kickstart but so far i haven't been able to get it aligned... Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! also if need be i can take pics of the bike. the motor looks to be a crf50 copy tho

Thanks,
Joe

I know someone up here knows how to fix this!!!!

well, I have a CHP motor, also made in China, I am very satisfied with it's performance considering the price.

sounds like you haven't preloaded the return spring on the kicker mechanism properly or something is actually broken..

does the kicker actually return all the way up by itself?

Sean nailed it. Unless it's been apart and is a clocking issue. Case-splitting should not be needed. Remove the clip on the kick shaft, and the spring/stop pieces. While pushing in on the shaft, turn it clockwise until you feel the tab on the ratchet start climbing the ramp. Hold in that position and slip the outer stop on the splines so it's going to rest against the stop in the case. Then wind the spring in to place, install clip. You should then be able to roll the tire without getting a clicking.
