Hi All, I've got a compression problem with my engine. It won't start cause basically there seems to be no compression. The kick starter just goes straight to the end of it's stroke without hardly any resistence at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Mate, first check that your spark plug is tight and put it in first and try to roll the bike forward, if rolls easily, no compression, if the wheel locks up, compression and your starter gears might be stripped..

yea, sounds like starter gear, try rolling starting, that will tell ya. Otherwise it could be a number of thing... loose spark plug.. (have to be almost falling out). Burnt and badly worn valves, (cracked, not seating right etc) or fried rings...

Thanks for the advice. I went out and checked the sparkplug and it's tight and when you put it in first it will roll forward with a little bit of resistence almost like dragging the back brake slightly. So it sounds like compression then but what might cause it? Any ideas? The engine is only a few rides old. thanks for your help.

few rides old??? can you hear the gas leaking out anywhere when you kick it over?

Can't hear any leaking sounds when i kick it over and not really sure how to check the valve clearances. Looks like a trip to the mechanics :( thanks guys

Sounds like a stuck valve. Its very easy to check and possibly fix.

and on the right of the page you will see a valve clearance video. If you think you can handle it get stuck in. We'll help if you get stuck.

If you do want to have a go at it, the fix may be as simple as only taking the tappet covers off and freeing the valve with a light tap. Post up once you get to that stage and we can tell you what to look for to check the valve isn't just stuck.

Hi Mack, i will have a crack at it tomorrow night. I'll let you know how it goes and thanks heaps for the info. Hopefully it will be a simple fix.

Argh! ive been looking for this everywhere! Thanks Mack!

its most probly the clutch. Tighten or loosen ur clutch, The kick starter is moving freely, because the kick starter moves through the drive train to start the engine and the clutch is slipping.

had this prob wif by bike sum years ago, brand new bike, took bout 50 kicks 2 finally kick it over. A simple tightening or loosening of the clutch and she 'll kick first time.

try that mate.

hi, i had a problem recently the as what you seem to be having. I thought it was the valve clearences but i soon found that it was the slightest bit of pressure on the clutch. So just check to see if your clutch isnt sticking.
